Netgear game adapter and WEP

| I finally got my Netgear game adapter to work with wireless security
disabled, but would like to enable WEP. My router is a Linksys WTR54GS
with the latest firmware upgrade, and my game adapter is a Netgear
WPE111.
When I attempted to configure the game adapter with a direct connection
into the router, the configuration wizard that is provided by Netgear
will lock up, and then the router seems to reboot. I did call Netgear
tech support, and they told me to unplug the router, and plug the game
adapter directly into the computer's ethernet port. This didn't seem
right to me, but I did it anyway. Of course, it isn't the right way to
do it, because the wizard searches for the router (on the screen after
it identifies the game adapter), and since the router is unplugged, it
doesn't find it. So much for relying on Netgear tech support...
I eventually got the configuration wizard to work while connected to
the router, and it works fine with security disabled. When I tried a
second and subsequent times after that, I get the lock up of the
wizard. Any suggestions? Would it possibly work to plug the adapter
into a 2nd computer (that is not connected to the router)? Thanks.

| Try disabling the UPnP feature on the router.
I have the same router (different adapter - MS MN-740) and had a bit of
trouble connecting.
I took someone's advice and disabled the UPnP feature and the connection
has been fine ever since.

| That's rather weird, or perhaps it is just your router. I've run three
different routers here, all UPnP enabled, and never had a problem with my
MN-740. Is your router on the "compatible" Xbox list?

| The WRT54G is a listed compatible router.
The WRT54GS is the same router with the speed booster feature.
We've been running the 54GS for over a month now with no issues.

| I'm running with all Linksys gear WRT55AG router ver.2 (A=G wi-fi router)
and
Linksys WGA54AG game adapter. Both are Xbox compatible though.
I had issues when I disabled UPnP. I couldn't get added to my friends Halo
2 games. It turns out this gives Strict NATing which can cause problems
with games.

| Exactly. You don't want to disable the UPnP portion. 8-) The WRT55AG is a
nice router, BTW.
