Thanks for the info.
Have ?solved? the problem. Just now.
I went into the loft and dug out my old usb modem and hub.
Set my PC up with ICS (and firewall) and connected the Xbox to the hub.
Started up UC, confirmed security download.
Bingo! It downloaded in about 10/15 secs.
There are 4 map content downloads so decided to download one. Took about a
minute to download.
Set up everything to go back through the router.
Started up UC again.
Started Live! no problem.
Downloaded rest of content through the router.
Just seems to be the security update through the router that was the
problem.
Don't know why, I can only speculate on 2 possible reasons the first of
which is the more probable:
1) Something in the router was blocking something somewhere else (vague I
know)
2) Something in the configuration of UC which 'remembered' the network setup
at the time it was originally installed (usb & hub) and couldn't handle the
change of setup.
Analogies to porks in brown stuff seem in order.
Many thanks to all who contributed. Officialdom got me nowhere fast.
