Author Connection changes after xbox live network upgrades

I have confirmed changes in my connections to the xbox live server after the
recent upgrades, and I was surprised to notice that they are in fact much
worse than previous. I was curious if anyone else shares this experience? I
did call 1-800-4myxbox and reported this information to them, but the
response was not what I had hoped, so I thought I would provide this
information here in this forum to try to help all find resolution.

If you’re curious, I have two independent cable lines (768up/8000dn) and two
independent DSL lines (384up/1500dn). I have tested them all, and the results
are the same. My cable pings to the xbox server prior to the upgrade were
68-72 ms every connect with no packet loss. DSL were in the 78-82ms range
with no packet loss.

Since the upgrade, my cable lines are showing 85ms latency, and 40 percent
packet loss (15/25). The DSL lines are now at 100-112 ms latency and 16/25
packet transmission.

So, I mean something is definitely different. My connection to xbox live (
for which I have four accounts) is definitely worse, atleast for me.

Given the nature of internet gaming where ping is critical to fun play, I
would hope, and atleast recommend to Microsoft and the xbox live community to
focus on tier three servers for their bandwidth to minimise hops from people
on each sides of the country. I have no idea how the network is configured,
or even how they operate it, but lag/latency in gaming at the moment is
difficult at best.

Having been on xbox live from the onset, and as an owner of four xbox’s, I
have to say that the term “upgrade” in the xbox live connection should be
removed. Services may have indeed been upgraded, but our connections to xbox
live and our gaming friends has not. Atleast apparently so, and from my
perspective.

Any other thoughts?

Sincerely,

Dailu
