Xbox IP not confirmed

| Hi, I've been looking all over this forum and haven't found a solution
to my problem. I'm using a MN-740 with a Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 Router.
The last place I lived this set up worked fine, the only difference is
that I'am now on a secure network. I filled out the PPoE section and
I've even tried getting on without it.
When I sign on without it I get a network gateway error.
When I sign on with PPoE enable I get a 'DNS not resolved' error.
I have filled out the DNS addresses that I receive back when I run a
ipconfig/all. At this point Im unsure of any other methods I could
try.
One more thing I have tried using different IP addresses as well from
the one my computer shows (192.168.1.1) to 192.168.1.101 to 10.0.0.1.
Any help would be appreciated as I would really like to have xbox live.

| We should sort this out a bit, Josh. You are connecting to the Internet
okay with your router? Correct? If not, I would contact your Internet
Service Provider for assistance to get the right setup.
The MN-740 should be able to automatically receive the router's DHCP feed,
as noted in the Xbox Dashboard setup. You do not need to "program" the
MN-740 in the same manner as you do the router. The latter handles all the
communications with your ISP. The MN-740, IF you are using a static IP for
the Xbox, should be using the router's IP address as the Gateway, plus the
DNS numbers as furnished by your ISP.

| Chris,
Sorry, if Im unclear... Im pretty much a newbie when it comes to
computers. My computer connects fine to the internet. The MN-740
receives a signal strength of good as well.
The problem that is occuring is during the connect process. When I
turn off PPoE it disables from the network and doesnt receive a signal.
Yet when I have it on it gets a DNS not resolved. I believe Im using
a static IP address because it's been the same IP on this computer
since I hooked up the internet.
If this makes no sense I apologize. Any help is appreciated.

| 8-) We've all been there, Josh. Don't worry about it.
Here's what you have:
1 - The router, to which your computer connects, is the item which handles
the connection with your Internet Service Provider. If that is set up
correctly (apparently the case), then you can connect with your computer to
the Internet. The "job" of the router is to communicate with the ISP, which
it seems to be doing just fine.
2 - The job of the MN-740 is only to communicate with the router itself.
The MN-740 does not need to have any information about the Internet
connection at all, IF the router is set to feed DHCP to your Local Area
Network (LAN) computers. Consider the MN-740 as another "computer" on your
LAN, and nothing more.
3 - In the Xbox Dashboard under network connections, if #2 above is set up
for DHCP feed, all you need to do is do "automatic" to receive the
connecting feed from the router. Check the manuals for both the Xbox and
the adapter here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/manuals.htm

| Chris,
Where do I find the DHCP info... thanks!

| You would need to look in the documentation for your router, and then check
the settings by going into your router setup routine. Usually, there either
will be a utility from the company which made the router for administration
of the hardware, or you can access it by using the IP address for the router
in your browser address line.

| Chris,
Im not sure on where I find out if DHCP is set up?
Thanks for the help so far.
| |
|
| DHCP is enabled...
Im wondering if I should just buy another modem for my side of the
house and just have it wired?
DNS still not found... I've tried entering MAC addresses as well.

| You need to go into the administration screens of the router. I don't have
that device, so can't tell you the exact steps. Take a look at the
documentation you have for the device, or look it up the information on the
Linksys site:
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...&p_new_search=1
&p_search_type=answers.search_nl .
You can select other choices and see the documentation on the Linksys site,
too.
