| I've just had the reminder that my subscription is due for renewal Feb 1st.
Rather than pay MS £40, is it possible to buy an xbox live starter kit and
use the 12 month code included in it - amazon are selling them for £32.99
which not only would give 12 months subscription but a spare headset.

| You need to cancel the current account before renewal time, and then would
need to start a new account (and new gamertag). You will lose your current
identity, scores, etc.

Not sure if it's changed... But last year I used another starter kit to
extend my subscription.

Sounds like the same as myself, I started with a 2 month trial then bought a
starter kit. I added the startre kit code just a few weeks into the 2 month
trial and it added 12 months onto the end of the 2. I was hoping to do the
same again.

I've just found this on microsoft's xbox web site:
Option 3 - Buy another Starter Kit
If you don't wish to have your credit card billed for your next year's
subscription, you can buy another Starter Kit for £39.99 RRP. Not only does
this include another 12 months subscription but also a Communicator headset
and a demo game disc. When buying a Starter Kit, you have two options;
1.. Continue your existing subscription - you can transfer your Gamertag
and use the new subscription code to carry on gaming.
2.. Start from a new subscription - use your new subscription code to
register a totally new account and Gamertag.
If you want to renew using a Starter Kit then you should do the following;
1.. On your Dashboard go to Account Management and select your Xbox Live
account.
2.. Select Subscription. You will see the details of your existing annual
subscription.
3.. Select Modify.
4.. Enter the last four digits of your billed credit or debit card.
5.. Select Subscription Code.
6.. Enter your subscription code from the subscription card in your
starter kit.

| Brian,
My 12 month subscription expires on 01/02/05 and I've just renewed it by
purchasing a new starter kit from Amazon £32.99 and entered the
subscription code in the live area of the dashboard. It still says that
the current subscription expires on 01/02/05 but it also says that the
renewal has already been paid for. I have received an email from
Microsoft saying that my subscription has been extended by 12 months.
You also get a new communicator in the kit and three new demo games,
FIFA 2005, Outrun 2 and Rainbow Six 3.
Regards,
Richard.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping I'd be able to do. In fact I've gambled and
gone a stage further, I've ordered the Halo 2 pack including Xbox live,
£49.99 again from amazon. If you read the docs about the bundle, it's halo 2
plus a starter pack (headset & 12 months subs). It should be here next week,
I'll let you know if it works!
Brian.

As I hoped, Halo2+Live Kit includes Halo 2 (duh!), headset and 12 month
subscription code that xbox live has accepted with no problems.
