Your box will still be NTSC when the chip is off, and so the game will
work (I can guarantee this). However, I've no idea if Live will work,
as I don't know how they will police this.

No, police as in tell where you are in the world from your IP address;

I was tempted to do this with the ESPN games but i didn't want to risk
being banned.
Surely it's no different than playing with an imported xbox?

The enigma video switch only affects the screen mode of your xbox. It will
still be a region 2 xbox, so the US version (region 1) will not load unless
it is region free. It may be, I have no idea, just thought I'd mention it..

I was of course assuming he had a mod chip, which I think was a fair
assumption, given his post.
In which case, it will work. I can guarantee this as TW2005NTSC works
on my PAL box, and I used the video switcher in order to get HD (as I
have a HD display).

All of them, up to 1080i, although that is down-sampled a bit. 720p

TW2005NTSC (Region 1) works on your PAL box, with the chip turned off?
In which case it is region free, no matter which video mode you have set
(PAL or NTSC)
It will probably work in PAL too without a modchip at all in that case..

Not sure how it works. My brother-in-law has a US Xbox which he plays
online (in UK) with no problems.
I swayed towards a PAL machine for the price/availability of games.
Please don't anyone tell me US games are just as cheap, or I'll be
'accidentally' dropping the Xbox and claiming on the house insurance ;-)

Amped 2 in 720p is lovely isnt it, its a shame not more games support it
though
Hopefully xbox2 will sort this out, as its about the only thing missing for

I don't know, I can't turn the chip off as I'm playing it from the hard

I doubt it is region free as the PAL version will not play on my box

OK, so your assurance to MagicUK is pointless then, as he wants to run it
with the chip turned off so he can play it on live.

Interesting, virtually every game I have plays in either PAL or NTSC video

Depends how the region detection works i guess?
I know the megadrive had a pretty crude way of checking and you could
switch to NTSC display and most US games would run fine.

No, that's wrong. It will work with the chip off (if he has the
original), and he has switched the mode to NTSC. It probably won't work
if he does not switch to NTSC (as in my PAL dics on my NTSC box).
(I'm obviously talking about a US disc here)
I don't know where you're drawing your conclusions from. If the box is
chipped, switched to NTSC, and then the chip is disabled, it is then, to
all intents and purposes, an NTSC box.
What makes you think that an original NTSC game will not work on it?
I can indeed guarantee that it will work! What's more I'll guarantee it
buy paying for MagucUKs copy of TW if it doesn't. Call me old
fashioned, but that's a real guarantee?
(I never said Live would actually work, just that the Live features of
the game would be there. I have no idea how actual Live connections are
policed, as I said in a previous post)

I'll try and take some high-res ones at different HD resolutions. It
will be really obvious on XBMC, but I'll do Amped as well.

The region is stored in the eeprom isn't it? That is what I understand, as
if you look at your EEPROM in config magic you will see there is a region
there (1-6). I am under the impression this is independant of the NTSC/PAL
screen mode.
It is region protection, not video mode incompatibility that will stop the
game working.

Q : " I take it you need to change the EEPROM setting and not just the
videomode? "

it doesn't matter what videomode you use. I have my PAL system set at NTSC

You cant be bothered to read a thread which proves you are wrong with how
you believe the region settings work.

The (original) region 1 disc will work, with the chip off, will work

I can't think of any other ways to say this. I'll buy him the bloody

How many ways do I have to write :
Q : " I take it you need to change the EEPROM setting and not just the
videomode? "
A : " Yeah, you need to use config magic to change the actual game region...
it doesn't matter what videomode you use. I have my PAL system set at NTSC
all the time. "

There are at least 2 settings that make consoles differ from US to UK.
1 - Videomode, PAL or NTSC.
2 - Regioncode, Region 1 or 2, which is stored in the EEPROM.
1 is changed via enigmah videomode switcher.
2 is changed via configmagic.
You have changed 1 but not 2. Your copy works as the modchip code with the
chip turned on negates the region code. As soon as you turn the chip off the
region code comes back into effect, and the game will not boot unless it is
region free.
I hope you now understand the above.

Oh, and as an aside, even if I am wrong, which you are sure of, he can
still do what he wanted by using the method you describe!
So, what's the issue?

The fact that you are assuring people something which I'm very confident is
wrong.
Plus why do you disagree with me? I've shown why I believe what I do, you
just flatly deny it to be true without any indication why. Do you disagree
that configmagic exists and controls the region or something?
I agree, in the long run it won't matter though ;)

| It will work with the chip off mate, but only by changing the region setting
in config magic, not using the technique Nick suggests.

| No it wouldn't, as long as you turn the chip off after changing the settings
you will be fine at the moment.
Theres always the possibility they change their detection technique for
banning, but they havent for years now, so you should be fine.

The thing I can't believe is the OP didn't claim his game!
Cheers.

If the game won't load, then yes, I'll pay you, and you send me the=20
disc.
However, as Matt and myself have agreed, it will work (even if you do=20
need to use configmagic).
However, if Live doesn't work, you'll be stuck with it, as I never said=20
I could guarantee that part.
Cheers.
