Best Xbox Live/headset combo?
|
|
| Yeechang Lee 2004-12-07, 12:45 am |
| Bought Crimson Skies standalone for $20 before realizing it comes with
the Xbox Live Starter Kit along with a headset and a year of Xbox Live
for $70. Now, what's the cheapest way way for me to get the other
components without ending up with an extra copy of Crimson Skies?
(Or, since I have a two-month free subscription anyway, should I wait
until Microsoft changes the pack-in game? How often does Microsoft
rotate the bundled title?)

| they dont change very often. you have a few options. you could use the
2month trial and pay monthly after that, or pay for the year..... your best
bet would be use two moth trial and by a year subscription card for $50.
there are allot of headsets that you can get now, the MS one is $30 ut i
have seen allot cheaper at gamestop or EB. youll have to check it out.

Also, how is the Crimson Skies included with the Starter Kit packaged?
Is it identical to the regular standalone copies, or is it different?
If identical, I guess I could return it to the store in place of the
standalone copy I bought by mistake.
If different, something else I might do is to buy the three-month
Starter Kit that comes with Mech Assault and Moto GP. If so:
a) Are these the full versions of the games? I've heard that the
Crimson Skies that (used to?) ship with the three-month kit was
just a demo.
b) Is there a difference between the 12- and three-month kits'
headsets? I know there are different kinds of Microsoft headsets
out there.

People people people, for cost effectiveness and comfor, you can't beat the $5 Mad Catz headset. It hooks over the ear,
and is very comfortable. Get on it.

Yes, but doesn't it still require the Microsoft Communicator hardware
component that comes with the Microsoft headset?

Indeed...but *every* headset requires that. Once you get the initial XLive setup
kit, you'll have it...from there, you can get another headset. I use my original
headset for buddy's who come over, and we use the splitter hack so we can both
talk and listen on Live...

I'll have to get one of these. I broke my original communicator's head
harness long ago. I usually just hold it up to my ear with my shoulder, if I
even use it at all.

Yeah, though MadCatz products generally get quite a bit of criticism(and often
times, rightfully so) their Headcom Headset has been a really solid product. For
$4.99....it's hard to go wrong...;)

I haven't bought too many MadCatz products. When I get third party
accessories, I usually stick with InterAct because, with the exception of
one Xbox controller, I've never had any problems with them. My problem was
that I couldn't ever find a headset that DIDN'T include the controller
dongle. I would have been happy with just a new head piece.

Well, the few MadCatz things I've had worked really well, for a time...then one
by one would start crapping out. The most depressing was the MadCatz Xbox
controller. It was the perfect combination of both of MS's Xbox controllers(The
Duke and the S-Controller). On that one, the "R" trigger just starts flicking
on and off...activating whatever function the particular game has it set to.
Kind of odd...
The Headcom, on the other hand has been rock solid(as were their DC
controllers, especially the one with the rubber buttons and grips).

You just use a headphone splitter in the Xbox Live controller module, thus
enabling you to plug in two headsets to it. This way you can both talk and
listen on Xbox Live. It's pretty cool...if you need any help with it, let me
know, I wrote up a small run-through on it...

| Go with one of the Plantronics GameCom headsets. They are a lot better than
the MadCatz piece of crap.
