Having some trouble using the voice facility on the live! headset. Basically
I can send voice messages to my online buddies, but can receive or hear any
thing via the headset - apart from the odd sound during a game (usually
Unreal Championship).

Spoke to MS this aft about this and was told that because it's being played
over a WiFi "G" network that's what causing the problem. I don't think this
is the case, but not sure what else to look for.

Any help would be gratefully received.

That is total BS. I have a 802.11g network and voice works fine. Even
Microsoft themselves have a Wifi "G" router and xbox adapter and they are on
the xbox live approved list.

Thanks for confirming my concerns. Though if your in the UK MS say they
don't support WiFi.

Fair enough because they don't sell their networking gear over here.

Who's your ISP? What's your up and downstream? What kind of router have
you got? Have you done some tests in the voice chat things with your
friends?

I think Paul is on the right track. I had a lot of voice problems
after I updated the firmware on my router. I eventually went back to
the original fimware and the voice problem went away. What router are
you using? What is the version of the firmware?

Cool, thanks for the link. You in the US? Will it make any difference that

yes i am in US, no i don't think it makes any differance what country you
live in withthe firmware, other wise the site would probably have asked
about what country i was from.... i could be wrong. also check the sticker
on the bottom of your router and make sure that you have teh wrt54g Version
2, that is what that firmware is for.

In the EU we have an extra "channel" so using non-EU firmware will remove
channel 13 (or something). No major problem though.

Several Microsoft routers are compatible in the US, that link was in
Australia.
Did Microsoft even release their routers outside the US?

Here's the US compatible router list.

Microsoft withdrew from the base station/router/adapter business last April
(except for the Xbox MN-740) and no longer manufactures the devices. They
were never licensed for use outside North America.

Since everyone insists on top posting...

I was aware of the withdrawal, but I wasn't aware of whether or not they
were sold internationally.
In other words, a simple "no" would've sufficed.

For some reason beyond my understanding all the voice over Ip seems to be
working. It just kinda kicked in midway through Unreal. Haven't even applied
the updated firmware either"!
