| I currently have DSL from Verizon. I'm looking to get a wireless router to
support the following:
I'm looking to do wi-fi G (possibly with accelerator) or A and G.
PC in the den upstairs hardwired to ethernet on the router
Xbox in the family room on 1st floor to support Xbox Live gaming (this is
*very important* to me)
2 laptops running Windows XP using wireless card of the same brand as the
router I purchase.
I've narrowed my search to Linksys and Netgear products.
For Linksys I am considering the following:
Linksys WRT54GS - has speed booster
Linksys WRT55AG - supports A + G. Currently I don't need A but it might be
good to have if I decide to add a media hub in the family room
Neither of the Linksys models are listed as Xbox-Live compatible, but I
believe both will work.
Netgear WGU624 - thi s unit is Xbox Live certified, Wi-Fi certified for
A/B/G
I'd like to hear from people who actually HAVE and are using/have used the
equipment I've listed (please don't cite similar equipment from the same
company).
I want info from folks who've used the gear I'm actually look at purchasing.

| I've got the WRT55AG on my LAN, and it works fine with the MN-740 (802.11g)
on the Xbox and Media Center Edition Extenders (802.11a). I have no issues
with the 5 Ghz broadcast, even though we have some 5.8 Ghz wireless phones
in our home.

| i wouldnt buy any router that isnt xbox compatable, you will casue game
issues.... more info here
http://www.xbox.com/en-au/live/star...ash/default.htm
also if you really dont understand the g with speed boost, you will really
piss of anyone else in your area who has wireless. speed boost is crap and
over powers other router, and in turn if you dont have a open link they wont
even be able to get onto there own router.
I have the linksys wrt54g and works great.

| I use Linksys fro my WiFi "G" network (1 server, 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 PDA
and the XboX) have had no problems setting it up and playing online. My
advice would be to stick with just the one brand (linksys, netgear, etc)
rather than try and mesh different brands all together.
Alos any problems you might have Linksys are amazingly quick and very good
at getting it sorted.

I'm not understanding what you mean by "you will cause game issues". The
link provided doesn't seem to indicate this,
One concern I have is I don't see the Linksys WRT55AG on the list at all.
This surprises me as that piece of hardware has been on the market for some
time (well over a year). I'm definitely looking for future expandability on
my network. I want to be able to stream media such as video and audio. I
also want to move data rapidly within the local network -- not just
download/communicate with Internet.

Odd, I thought one of the selling points of Speedbooster (Linksys) is that
it was a friendly neighbor and unlike some other speed accelerator schemes
it complies with Wi-Fi G standard and doesn't interfere with other nearby
networks.
