The very first time that you sign up with xbox live do you have to give them
a credit card number or just a subscription card code. My parents will not
give me their credit card number, but will let me buy subscription cards.
Thanks all.

You need to input the card too.

However once it's entered you'd need to know the last 4 digits to actually
see what the card details are, so they can lock you out of seeing it. 8-)

Tom,

You must provide a credit card so that we can tie that card, which by
definition is traceable to a known person at a known address, so that in the
event of you causing any serious issue on Live we know where to find you or
the "responsible adult" who set up your account so that the appropriate
steps may be taken against you or them (if you are a minor).
Xbox Live is not an anonymous service.

You need the Credit Card Number also. The Xbox will only slow the last 4
Digits. You can password lock out the Extra Fee's for Game Extra's, the
Xbox is using Military grade Encryption also. The Card info is far Safer
on your Xbox then using it to make a Purchase at a Store by far.

Microsoft also wants to make sure Someone of 18 years or older is letting
you get on to LIVE. If there's any problems they'll be able to contact the
person that owns that Credit Card. No Anonymous Users on LIVE.

The Subscription Cards work fine. The Credit Card won't be Billed for the
service using them. Just Inform your Parents of these facts, and/or they
can call Microsoft and talk to them. Really, it's not a big deal.

Andy

Probably, but they email you a notice when its nearly time to renew so be
sure and use a valid email address. When its time to renew you can just use
another subscription card.
