Finally got the Xbox live kit setup yesterday evening and loaded up
after some fiddling about, the starter kit I bought came with demos
for Out Run 2, Fifa 2005 and Rainbow Six. After setting up my
gamertag it was straight onto the Fifa 2005 demo's live bit. I went
into the Quick Match mode and after about 30 seconds was connected to
another user, and the match was soon underway. After playing the game
for a minute or two plugged in the headphone / mic set and shouted
down the mouthpiece... "Anybody there..." to find some guy from
Cantebury (England) speak back to me in my left ear, very weird
experience altogether. The only problem I found with Fifa was that
there was little 'jerkiness' about it as it was sometimes lagging, it
seemed to get gradually worse as the game went on! But not that bad
that you would have to abandon the game or anything, but was a tad
annoying, actually now that I think about it seemed mostly to happen
when going to the cut scenes showing a replay or a player animation or
whatever. (I have a 512k Broadband line so hoped it would have been
smoother).

After getting stuffed 3-0, I stuck on Out Run 2, and started playing a
game against 3 other racers.... only to find it was as smooth as
playing in single player mode no lag whatsoever, very impressive.

Can anyone tell me if they have had a similar experience with Fifa
2005, or could this just have been a bad time to play (after 6.30pm),
busy network or whatever. The reason i'm a looking a bit of info on
this 'slowness' is cos Im waiting for Pro Evolution Soccer 4 coming
out on friday and am hoping it doesnt suffer the same lagging.

Fifa 2005 is a little jerky on Live..
For some reason EA have chosen to use there own servers, whilst most other
games use MS ones.
Don't know if this is the cause or just the game itself.

Myself enjoy Toca 2, worth getting, live is great no problems unless you get
a 12 car room and a bad connection.

Live is the bees knees isn't it??

This is due to FIFA itself. Want my opinion? Avoid all EA games.

EA have their heads so far up their own you know what that they decided they
want "special" terms to support Live, unfortunately Microsoft caved and
allow EA to use their own servers for the service.

I've not played Pro Evo 4 online yet, had a quick go today though (very
nice!) but you can bet it'll play a lot better over Live.

I haven't played Fifa 2004 at all, but even if there is jerkiness in that
game it doesn't necessarily mean that there will be in Pro Evolution 4. It
really varies from game to game. There's really no telling how much lag you
will get or how it will affect you, but most games really just get a bit of
jerkiness. It'd probably be best to check out GameFAQs or the Team XBOX
forums to see if the game has any real online issues.
