Hey out there,
I'm wondering if anyone knows the failure rate of the dvd drives and how
easy it is to replace them. I'm about to buy a XBox but rumblings about the
drive failure got me a bit worried. Also, has anyone "upgraded" their hard
drive?

Hi,

Considering the number of xbox's out there,
you've got little to worry about with the new
models, we repair them in our shop and mostly
see the earliest one's (V1.0-V1.2) with dvd rom
and/or power supply failures.. see very few newer
ones.. so my opinion is don't stress about it.. we
actually see more ps2's with dvd rom failure these
days.. as for upgrading the hard drive.. not bad if
you want to use it as a media centre or linux or
many other options.. otherwise just stick to the
un modified console until your warranty is finished.

Cheers
Greg
