| They explain what happened to the Forerunner in Halo 2. The Monitor says it
straight out at the very end, right before the fight with Tartarus. The
Forerunner couldn't defeat the Flood, so they activated Halo and it wiped
them out. That's why I think there are no safe havens from Halo, not even
Earth.
