| Have had a PS2 since release, and bought 2 more for other rooms in the
house.
Just got a X-Box for my son with halo,halo2 etc, not used it as yet till
xmas, but have been wondering, why the mad rush for X-boxes all of a sudden.
Should I get one for myself ?
Are they really any better than PS 2's..........
:-)

There's no such thing as better or worse for one of today's three consoles.
It's just a matter of preference. Personally, I would say that Xbox is the
best, and I would advise you to get one, but it's completely up to you.

Furnishing the house with so many consoles, it's a little surprising
you've not tried other machines. Such loyalty to Sony :-)

The Xbox has slowly gained respect and popularity over the last couple
of years. It's had to really fight for respect and prove itself --
there was a general hatred of Microsoft, the worry that it was "a PC
in a box", and of course everyone had such brand loyalty to the Sony
Playstation.
I think all consoles are good, but this is the last useful year of the
PS2, as it becomes too old and ready to retire. The Xbox has come into
its prime this year, with more graphical power than the PS2 and an
excellent online service.
The Xbox has some great exclusive games, and multi-format games nearly
always look slightly better and run slightly faster on the Xbox. The
library of Xbox games is mostly mature stuff -- lots of driving games,
first-person shooters and combat games. Very few platformers, puzzle
or gimmick games.

| Cheers Gavin,
Yeah you're right regarding loyalty. TV,dvd,hi-fi,Sony ericsson phones as
well for the past 3 years.
Will give my sons xbox a go this week and try it out.
Some game with 'Vietnam' in the title has been recommended from a few
workmates.

| The fact is ...
N64: for kids aged 10 or bellow
PS2: for the youth aged 25 or bellow
XBox: for adult aged 25 or above (most computer/I.T. literate)
The discrimination... is unfortunately out there.

The xbox IS graphically better than the ps2. But the quality of games
isn't nearly as good as those in ps2. Metal gear solid series, GTA
series, to name a few are some of ps2's best. There was an article on
EGM's latest issue which i find interesting. It says that xbox will
not be what it is now without halo. I agree with that. I wouldn't have
looked or play on xbox if not for Halo. I actually want to buy an xbox
just to play halo2. it's that good of a game.

N64 is for people who buy consoles at car boot sales :-) I think you
mean Gamecube, which is for kids, anime geeks, and a few really
hardcore gamers who appreciate Nintendo's mastery.

The number of 12-year-olds who supposedly "own" me on Xbox Live
disproves that.

Quality of the games on PS2 isn't necessarily better. They just have a
huge selection of games on that platform. Personally I've played a lot
of shitty games on teh PS2. I think the ratio of shitty games to good
ones like you mention is about the same for PS2 and Xbox.

I agree that microsoft has to thank bungie for the xbox's success.
