Someone on the Bungie forums recently mentioned killing Elites with one
Sniper Rifle shot, but it's only happened to me accidentally, even when I
aim for the head. How do you get a one-shot kill?
Thanks.

| Aim for the face, not the back of the head. It increases the damage and
makes that possible, even on Legendary.

Okay, thanks. I always aim for the blue part of their helmets (since they
usually are facing me). I'll try it.

Don't worry; I will

I usually aim for the head (helmet) because I assume that's where you'd want
to shoot (the helmet gets in the way, I guess). Thanks, I'll try the face
next time.

I've had success hitting their orange midsections. I think. Things move

Those are Hunters. Shoot them in the exposed red back or belly, best done at
close range with the pistol right after or as he swipes. One shot is all it
takes. Lacking a pistol, bash him in the back after side stepping his
charge. Get comfortable with them. They're no worse than rabid pitbulls when
you have them on a short leash. Take one for a stroll around the
cartographer's island; take him swimming if you like, but be careful to stay
close so he doesn't blow himself up with the plasma cannon. The trick would
be to walk two around the island; that's quite a bit more difficult. Be sure
to kill the marines first so they won't distract your pets.

Heh heh. I never thought of taking a Hunter around Silent Cartographer
before. That should be fun.
I don't take on Hunters with the pistol anymore; it's too easy. Instead, I
use a plasma pistol or rifle, an AR, or a Sniper Rifle
BTW, summer and Devala, thanks again for the info. I went hunting earlier on
AotCR and I got several one-shot kills

| Another fun thing to do is do a dance with them. Step back and to the side
so your gun is constantly touching theirs, and have a partner watch and it
looks like you're holding hands and dancing, especially if you twirl when
they raise their shield. The best place to do it is in the mouth of the
first tunnel in AotCR when two of them come out of it toward you. I danced
all the way back to the ice lake before getting bored and slaughtering them.

down.

hi Greg,
you can also try to make te elites get mad, when they get
mad they run right to your face, you have to wait, wait,
and BLAM! crush their head whit a melee attack, they will
hit the ground and it looks cool, but be careful to not
let them hit you first.
cheers!

They only do that on their last hitpoint, after you've shot or grenaded them
just short of the point of death. One more shot would have had the same
result. A bash to their back puts down healthy ones immediately, but happens
rarely if you don't sneak up behind them. For everything except Legendary,
charge up with guns blazing and bash them a good one. Shoot him some more as
you both recover and then bash him again. Repeat until he drops. Plasma
weapons freeze him in place while you close the distance, but the AR feels
and sounds like the right tool for the job. Any or either will do. It works
in Legendary also, but only if he's alone. Otherwise, medium range fire with
a plasma rifle from cover works best. The shots freeze him in place so he
can't duck for cover. Remember to space out the shots so the rifle doesn't
overheat. Try three shot bursts with short pauses in between.
There are two rooms in AotCR that feature sleeping Grunts and patrolling
Elites. On a good day, I can clear both without firing a single shot.
Stealth and one bash kills on the lot of them. Stick a grenade on the last
Grunt rather than bashing him. I never tire of watching their startled
reaction to being awakened, and then the panic dance on finding a grenade
stuck to their head.
There are two ways to play these games. Some go for fastest time. I enjoy
playing for 100% kills. Leave not one bad guy standing.

One way to get one-hit kills to the backs of Elites is in co-op, have one
person fire at it with any weapon and the other stay behind cover. When the
Elite goes past the hidden person, he can come out and whack it. I prefer
using the overcharged Plasma Pistol on Elites in Legendary to take out
Elite's shields, and then dropping them with a single pistol shot to the
head. A clip of needles also does the job, but you want to save needler ammo
whenever you can. If there's ammo to spare, the Shotgun isn't bad if you can
get close enough. Often an Elite thinks he's hidden but enough is showing
for you to stick a grenade, or you can just through a frag into wherever
he's hiding.
I can usually clear those two rooms without being seen. It's also really
funny to break the glass under a sleeping grunt on the first bridge. They
wake up in midair and flip out. Of course, then you have to kill them, but
it's still entertaining. Sometimes there isn't a grunt sleeping on the
glass. In this case, load the last checkpoint and there probably will be.

The system I use for Elites (and sometimes other enemies) works like this:
1) in the middle of a fight, find a weapon on the ground that I can switch
to,
2) waste the ammo or overheat the current weapon,
3) switch to the weapon on the ground,
4) start from 1, shooting all the while.
Sometimes, I add a grenade into the mix. And I make sure to keep moving to
lessen damage. This system works pretty well for Covenant and Flood, though
the Flood are more resistant to plasma weapons.

Oh, right. Saw Elite and thought of the Hunters, for some reason. Brain
glitch. Yeah, head shots necessary on the Elites. Sniper rifle helps a
lot on those.

| I just run through the levels and do them in the shortest time possible. It
seems like such a waste to kill every last one of them (except if they're
marines, I like killing them). SC was made for that.

| I try to kill everything in my way or that hits me, but I don't go out of my
way to kill enemies that aren't bothering me. I try for speed, but I won't
sacrifice safety for it.
