Author Dialogue Contest
Greg Tyndall

2004-10-18, 5:58 pm

Goal:
1) Give the next correct line of dialogue for the level Two Betrayals.

Rules:
1) Every time you post, you must give the *next* line of dialogue.
2) You *cannot* post twice in a row.
3) You can only give *1* line of dialogue. This means only one character's
line can be in your post.
4) Dialogue from cutscenes is allowed, but this is mainly about dialogue
from gameplay.
5) You cannot play the level to make sure you have the line right. This
contest is about memory and speed.
6) If you get something right, you get to play Halo 2 in 27 days! (Note: you
must supply the copy of Halo 2.)
7) People who get a line of dialog wrong will be shot.

The first line:

"Chief...don't be a fool. *erk*... Leave me!"

Life is like a box of chocolates.

I'm guessing that I'll be the main participant in this, because I love
arbitrary activities with no practical use (as you can see from some of my
posts). Do random lines (like from Covenant) count? Or just ones that always
happen? Assuming the latter, the next is
"Captain? Captain? I've lost him."
by Cortana. Should we say who says the lines? And just out of curiosity, why
did you pick Keyes? And also just out of curiosity, since you seem to be
familiar enough with the game to know all the lines, how did you mess up and
call it Two Betrayals?
lol

Rats! I didn't realize I'd made so many errors! *slaps forehead*

1) I meant the level Keyes. *bangs forehead against keyboard and monitor
numerous times*
2) Covenant lines are random, so no. But if you wanted you could include it
with another line like: "Cortana. Blah blah!" "Wort wort wort!"
3) Yes, you got the right line
4) You can say who's saying the line if you want, but it's not really that
important.
5) I picked Keyes because it is a hard level, and it has lots of odd and
interesting lines.
6) Yep, I messed up *really* bad. I don't know what happened. Hands (or
brain) must be stupid or something. I know most of the lines in the game,
but how did I cross Two Betrayals with Keyes? Ugh.

Doggone it :-(

Will you be participating in the contest yourself? Or were you just starting
it off?

Also, if you're willing to clog the newsgroup, what about doing the whole
game?

Hey, I'm a master of Halo quotes, not universal gaming. In other words, I
fail. But if you're that sure of yourself, what game is this line from?
"Come, you mongrels! Taste the steel of Mogrin's axe!"

Lol
You got it wrong. Here's another one for the same game:
"You Watchers split up into two parties. Scour the woods. Find what you can.
We'll meet you further up the coast."

And as for yours, Darkened Skye? I'm not sure, but I think that's it.

Um... Balder's Gate...? I'm stumped.

BTW, are you giving me PC game quotes or console game quotes? 'Cause I've
been giving console quotes.

Nah. It's from Grandia II.

How about this: "Cut the ones that matter and run!" (It's from a console
game.)

Oh, sorry, those were PC quotes from Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. I have
no idea what yours is; I'm primarily a PC gamer, though I play a lot of
console games as well.

Here's a console quote for you: "We don't go back! We go through!"

Doggone it, I bought Warcraft III: TFT a few months back! I apparently
haven't gotten around to those parts, yet... I think I made it to Thrall's
second campaign.

I'm primarily a console gamer, though I play some PC games.

I'm not sure. There's a similar line to that in The Bouncer, but I don't
know.

Here's one (console): "I will show you...the greatest nightmare!"

BTW, my previous quote was from Final Fantasy X. The line "Didn't I tell you
you stink, kid?" is from Gungrave: Overdose.

Thrall's second campaign is still in the original. Both my quotes were from

Mine was from LotR: Return of the King.

I've never played Ecco or Turok, so I had no chance on that.

My very first quote was from Zero Wing; that's the game with "All your base

How far did you get? And do you plan on finishing it?

Actually, "Quit poking me" is in every Warcraft game.

I think I made it to the Orc Campaign, Chapter 4: The Spirits of Ashenvale.

As for finishing it, I would if I had enough time. It takes like 2 hours to
complete each mission. On top of that, there's so many games coming out this
holiday, that I think it'll just be buried :-(

Okay, I've only played Warcraft III. Have you ever played Homeworld?

It takes you that long? Are you playing on hard? I usually beat them in
under an hour, unless it's a tough one.

I've played a little bit of Homeworld, but not much.

I didn't play that much either; mainly multiplayer.

BTW, the line I quoted is said after your home planet is destroyed.

Cry of the Warsong took me 2 hours, but I think it's one of the longer
missions. I don't know if I was playing on hard or not; it's been like 3
months.

the firts one was Cyan?
so what about this:
"how rude of me, to turn my back to a lady"
and for my line was Cid when you first met him at the
phantom train

Did you destroy all the Human bases? That makes it a lot longer. I usually
don't; it's not necessary, and it really doesn't help.

My first line is said when Ultros is pushing the weight to crush Celes at
the Opera. You're right about the second

Hm. I didn't know Cid was on the Phantom Train... I need to go play it
again. As for your new line, that's said by Edgar, when Terra first meets
him.

Here's one that's pretty easy: "That's TREASURE HUNTER!"

Yep, I slaughtered them. I have a habit of destroying everything in a game
that is destructible. Maybe I should skip them next time around...

It's easy enough to kill the one that semi-guards the Goblin Laboratory,
then just assault the creeps and let Grom keep the Humans preoccupied (for
the most part). You can usually get the Zeppelins before the Humans even
attack you, once you've gotten your base set up and taken out their first
base.

I'm not much of a speedster, so my strategy is to leave a fair amount of
units at the main base, suck the gold mines dry, and chop down the
forest(s). While I'm doing that, I send a squad off to kill any opponents on
the field and steal their gold mines. I usually have to send several squads
out because the others die as soon as they get there.

But, if I get around to Warcraft again, I'll try going a little faster.

It's usually a good idea to send all of your forces together to quickly
crush an enemy base with no or minimal losses as quickly as possible, so you
get the maximum gold out of their mine. Rush is definitely the way to go,
especially in multiplayer.

Yeah, I tried multiplayer against the AI and got creamed :-P

Yes, it is getting funny I'm really enjoying looking back on the old
SNES days.

On the Phantom Train, I think that's the character you quoted was Siegfield.
He's also called Ziegfield and Zeigfield or something like that; his name
changes every time you encounter him.

For your first quote...: Shadow?
The second: That's Ultros
And the third: I think that's Locke in the Phoenix Cave.

Here's some quotes:
"I'll give you 3 reasons: First of all, your beauty has captivated me!
Second, I'm dying to know if I'm your type... I guess your abilities would
be a distant 3rd."

"He'd slit his own momma's throat for a nickel!"

"At first glance I thought he was some bodybuilder who had strayed from his
gym..."

"I'm getting sick of this! Thou art such a pain in the...! Confound it all!
I'm starting to talk like you!"

It's actually Edgar talking about Shadow.

That was Terra on Mt. Koltz.

It was Sabin talking to Cyan

1) It's the Opera guy in that town, but I don't remember his name.
2) This one almost stumped me. The ghosts on the Phantom Train
3) Relm?
4) Strago?
5) Kefka?
6) Edgar

Some more quotes (these are off of memory so they're probably wrong):
"Hm. Interesting. A coin with two heads..."

"Go away and don't come back! The doctor said Rachel will never wake up
again because of you!"

"No!!! Elayne! Owain!!"

Just wanted to say that this will be one of my last posts until after I beat
Halo 2, so you won't get a response until after then. Sorry :-(
