Aw fellas, Miss Uda died tonight. I know she was "just a
cockatiel", but I'm still weeping. She just sorta drooped over
on the floor of her and Zasu's cage and died.

I looked up and went running, but she was gone. Oh man,
this is such a different pain than when Dusty died- she was *so*
sweet, and so tolerant of me hugging her and toting her around,
even though she really didn't care to be held like that.

Uda had developed a little bald patch on her tummy, and after
I was able to control my emotions a bit better, I took a good look
and it appears she had a tumor under the skin there. The rest of her
skin (where feathers were) was a totally different color than the
bald spot, and it felt hard to the touch. I guess it doesn't matter,
but I'm just crushed.

I'm a mess. :o{

The poor pigeon died mid-afternoon, despite my best efforts
to help it. I had gotten the camera and went to take some pictures
of it, but I was too late.
Right up until then the poor thing was sitting calmly, and appeared
to be just looking around curiously.

Then just about 6 hours later, Uda died.

Augh. ;-(

Its never easy to lose a pet. No matter how often it happens, it never
gets any easier. They're like family, and you don't want to see anything
bad happen to them. Only thing that can help ease the pain is knowing that
you tried your best to make them comfortable and happy when they were
alive.

Could they be related? Might it not be a tumor but something communicable
that the pigeon had?

Virtual hugs, anyway. I've been seeing lots of dead critters on the road
lately and it griefs me out even for that; a critter who's part of the
family is so much harder to loose.

No, Ross was worried about that, but Zaz is fine, and Uda did
have that weird bald spot. We buried her this evening. I am having
a tough time of it, and I think Zasu misses her, as he was awfully
quiet today.

Yes it is. We cried a little bit over Dusty today, as we buried Uda
next to her. <sigh>
