Happy ending, however, still not something I would condone due to the
*needless* suffering of a fish.
Interesting film and science project. But nothing I would do to an
animal personally.

Found it very uncomfortable to watch. I feel guilty flushing spiders down
the drain.
I once raced home from the office to a tearful stepwife as her new little
living room goldfish bowl wasn't adequately aerated and she lost one of her
little fish and was blowing bubbles with a soda straw to try to keep the
remaining ones alive. I had to stop by the pet shop and grab a small pump
and air stone to keep the rest of her collection alive.

She was blowing carbon-monoxide INTO the bowl?

There's always some oxygen in first-generation exhaled air (hence,
rebreathers), and it's possible that the bubbly surface, being more than
a flat surface, increases oxygen exchange along the water/air boundary.
I'd say the idea has merit.

I'd also like to point out that most humans exhale carbon-dioxide,
carbon-monoxide binding damn near irrevokably to our red blood cells,
preventing them from taking in oxygen, causing folks to die of
asphyxiation (or at least oxygen-starvation).

Mono, Di...
It's still an OXIDE, which I'm terrified of... so I wash my hands
regularly...
Bloody oxides are all over the place!
Oh, wait... it's Oxen I'm afraid of.
Never mind.

Bad idea. This introduces dihydrogen-monoxide (DHMO), a chemical which
has been linked to far too many horrible phenomena. Exposure to gaseous
DHMO causes first and second degree burns. DHMO can be found in nearly
all cancerous tumors, and it is a major component of acid rain.
Accidental inhalation of DHMO can easily result in death, yet it is
colorless and odorless.
It is used as coolant in nuclear reactors and as an industrial solvent.
On a grander scale, it was also related to the recent hurricane Katrina
and current hurricane Rita, and was a key factor in the creation of the
Tsunami of Christmas 2004.
Read more about it over at http://www.dhmo.org/
