Author Off Topic- Last Model?

Speaking of plastic car models and such, do you
remember the last model you put together?

I can't remember if my last one was the Starship
Enterprise, or the Goodyear blimp with blinking lights,
but it was one of those.
(I'm not counting the actual last, which was a model
airplane I helped my son with- it was *his* model, so I
tried to just cheer him on.)

I'm trying to remember the last *car*, but it's just not
gonna happen.......I just remember that the plastic body
was molded in red, and was a real XXXXX to paint over. (I
hated red then, too. The only thing worse than red is pink.)

I was into sports cars and muscle cars, especially any
Corvettes I found in my local stores.

My favorites too. But dang, that last model I put together must have been
35 years ago or more....

I think it was the Enterprise C for me. I've put an aircraft carrier
together. But never cars. Cars have never held a fascination for me. I
can appreciate a beautiful car. But they've never really been anything
more than transportation to me.

I see how worked up people get over their car and I wonder, "am I
broke? How come I don't get that enthused..."

Hot Wheels? Sure, I used to have some. But I was more intrigued with
the physics of looping tracks down my parents' stairs than I was in
the make, model and asthetic of the "car".

I've never built models.

Did have a construction set that could, mostly, be made into a truck, at
some point.

I'd like to say that it was that long ago for me, but the
truth is that I got the Goodyear blimp here in Yuma, so I
was at least 32 years old.
For the math-challenged, that's only 20 years ago. ;)

Ah, see, I'm a detail-oriented person, so the fine details of
the auto interiors and exterior trim were perfect for anal little me!

Hmmm, I suppose that qualifies as a "model". It's the same sort
of action, i.e., building something with your hands. I've never outgrown
the need to do that- I make greeting cards, stained glass objects like
pencil cups and candle holders, I carve wood into all sorts of things,
I sew, do beadwork, etc., etc., etc..

I built a spitfire around 14 years ago, just after me and the current Mrs
Schrodinger were married.

She smashed it in an argument and I have never forgiven her. She doesn't
know that, but it's on the list for me to use one day....

Great material for your nervous breakdown, or the ensuing court case.

"I could burn the house down is why I can do spit fire didn't have to
break my spitfire totally uncalled for so I could burn the house down
cause she broke my spitfire [...]"

Talk about a spitfire! And I don't mean the car model......

Ah, there's your feminine side- building up ammo! ;)

It's very obvious that you have never been married, Frank.

Breaking or throwing away items that the man cares about
is a classic female tactic that deserves punishment, in my opinion.
Not *harsh* punishment, mind you, but a bit of emotional payback
is justly warranted.
She destroyed an item she was jealous of- the man spent time
on IT instead of her, see? Very juvenile and spiteful. But we do it.

Cheer up, though. Around my age we just watch the dude
fiddling with whatever hobby and are glad he's occupied, instead
of hovering over our shoulder and asking, "Whatcha doin'?" and
"Can I help?".

I gotta find Ross a XXXXing hobby............................

Alas, no. The last one I worked on was a Cutty Sark and we got some
painting done while on vacation in the gold country years ago, and now the
parts sit in the box.

My brothers and I were big into that stuff as kids, though. Both plastic
models and RC stuff, esp. boats. We had a nice 6 foot sailboat we ran in
Golden Gate Park.

We were big on electrifying our stuff. The sailboat had running lights,
which came in handy one day right at dusk when one of the mast guy lines
failed and the mast toppled into the water. We got the inflatable raft out
of the car and rowed out to retrieve it, locating it by its running lights.

We built the original Battlestar Galactica with fiber optics, including
chaser lights in the landing bays. (This was ca. 1970-something.) We built
the Cylon Raider with brake lights for the engines, which melted the
surrounding plastic badly. So we rebuilt the tail with homemade ceramic
made from layers of superglue and baking soda.

I have an Enterprise model from The Motionless Picture and an electronics
kit to animate the nacelles but it's all lying in the original boxes, as
that was about the time I ran out of time to engage in such things.

Scratch, you are an UberGeek. You are my hero. I bow before you.

I always wanted to do an ISD with fiber optic illumination but never
got around to it.

Heh.

Thing is, if I brought it up now - a) She wouldn't remember and b) It would
make me look even more ridiculous and spiteful. I think I missed the boat
with this one. <sigh>

All I've got is my computer, my job, and my family (primarily, the
kids). I really don't get interested in much else. So she won't have
much to destroy except my computer stuff. And I've already made it
clear that if she ever messed up any of my computer stuff, I would
feel justified in beat and/or killing her.

I wish my wife were OK with me having a XXXXing hobby.

On topic - I haven't made a model since pre-teen years, so I can't
even recall what the last thing I made was. Probably a model rocket,
as that's the last model related hobby I can recall having.
