Yep, got it Saturday night and have about 12 hours into it. Nostalgia plus
good graphics. I'm playing at the 2nd difficulty level (normal in
easy/normal/hard/nightmare parlance). The squad fighting is fun, working
with the AI's. Reminds me of Half-Life Opposing Force.

So far I've only had a couple of tough spots. One is keeping "Morris" (the
demolitions guy) alive to plant his charges. The AI kept wanting to rush
into the firefight and get himself killed, or ride my heels and keeping me
from backpedaling out of the line of fire.

Then I encountered a Boss with a laugh like Krusty the Clown, and not being
able to survive his attack. Hint: You won't need any of your ammo
immediately after fighting him, so empty your guns.

The game has one of the most grisly cut scenes I've ever seen, and my
stomach flipped over a few times watching it. I've really missed that. ;)

I bought the DVD Special Edition for an extra $10, and got the bonus DVD
with Q2 and its add-on packs and some other stuff. Haven't looked at that
DVD yet.

The main objection I have to the game is that the game play isn't that
original. It feels like Q2 with better graphics, or HL2 with more gore and
less open space. And it needs more puzzles. It also lacks the alerts when a
secret is discovered.

Ok, I need to go play something less visceral for awhile. I'm suffering
from adrenaline overdose. ;)

Try F.E.A.R.

I hear it has nice mellow gameplay, beautiful panoramas, and soothing music.

It does lend itself well to the classic tactic of 'charge!'. This tactic
is survivable if you're lucky and skillful, and a lot of fast-paced fun.

Indeed. Right down to the laughing children.
