Wow, talk about timing! First thing I see is a post with my name as
the subject. Coolness.

First, let me apologize for not having downloaded QuoteFix yet, but
this laptop is only 2 days old. (big, chit-eating grin)
It's a Gateway, which will shock the hell out of most of y'all, and it's
sporting a celery instead of an athlon, but hey, the price was right. It's a
real trip getting used to, and it's a totally blank canvas, so I'll be
awhile
getting it set up to suit me.
I can't believe how thin it is! And light! Plus, the quietness of it
compared
to my desktop is *so* nice. Just a faint "whirr" in the background.

Gosh folks, there's so much to catch up on I don't know where to
begin. I'll just ramble on a bit at a time until we're all caught up.
(Meanwhile,
let me go back a few days (or weeks) and read the posts to see what news
I can glean about y'all.)

As you can tell, I ain't croaked yet, but I can't say I'm exactly
healthy
again, either. It took this purty new computer toy to get my XXX motivated
enough to get back online. I promised Troy that when I was well enough
to post again, I'd do so in here, cuz I missed y'all the most. Well, here
I am! <grin>

Good Neighbor Allen is going to share his DSL with us, by setting
up a wireless LAN or something of the sort. (I think it was Troy who
suggested this very thing a couple of months ago during a phone call.)
Until Allen gets both desktops hardwired and this laptop receiving from
the wireless transmitter, I opted for a cheapie dial-up rather than fuss
with that satellite ISP. (Hey, that'll be gone soon! $60 a month saved!!)
I chose PeoplePC over NetZero, and I must say that so far I'm very
pleased with it. It's set up to work with Outlook Express from the get-go,
or you can use their web mail. You don't have any hassles with proprietory
software, so that's another BIG bonus. For just $10.95 a month, it seems
well worth it. Plus, for traveling, I'd need a dial-up anyway.

But so anyway, my email is still miracle@spamcop.net, and those of
you with my direcway addy might as well delete it, cuz like I said, we'll
be cancelling that ISP soon. I'll miss the d/l speeds, but Allen tells me
that he's very pleased with the dsl service. We're trading his ISP service
for our trash service, so they get to use our dumpster and we get to use
their dsl! LOL

This is nice- I'm sitting at the dining room table, close to the coffee
pot nearby in the kitchen. Neato. And soon I won't need the phone cord,
so I can tote it all over the house and post! It's so light I can't believe
it.
It's not my dream gaming machine, but it will do what I need it to do
for now. Which is mostly to visit with my friends.

Damn, I rambled on pretty good there, huh? heh heh heh.............

No cool sigs yet,
Miracle

It is so refreshing to hear from you again Miracle. I was about ready to
make a cross country road trip to just knock on the door and see if you're
okay. Each and every day you are in our prayers. To some of the ng members
you're that second mother. To others you're that loving friend. And yet to
all of us, you're our Miracle. Showing us that age doesn't matter when
gaming, that no matter what's thrown at you you still look at the world with
loving eyes. We sorely miss you my friend. Hey, some even miss you cookies
(j/k). We love you Miracle.

No matter what it is, if you ever need anything, contact us. I know it's

Hey girl! Sup? Good to hear from you for sure. Dang age is whooping up on
me too. Had a molar yanked out of my head this morning. It had cracked in
half from my wisdom tooth growing in and crowding it. It was obviously the
weak link. Numbness is wearing off and the Vicodin has not yet kicked in
fully. Wireless is fun. I just rebuilt my old network from BNC coax and
Windows ICS, to a Linksys WRT54G, to use with my new toy. Check it out:

http://www.streamium.com/products/sl300i/

I hardwired the network's four computers to the router but when my parents
come visit they can use the wireless on their laptop also. You have no
excuse to be a stranger around here now. :^)

Laptops do rock. WiFi-enabled laptops rock even more. Quiet,
long-lasting and light WiFi-enabled laptops put Woodstock to shame.

Satellite is nice for bandwidth, sucks for latency.

The way I figure you Americans, you pay something like a quarter per
*session*. As opposed to us Rightpondians, who pay by the second. No
wonder dial-up is a viable option for you Merkins.

Heh. Sharing a DSL connection would probably be cheapest, especially if
you're mostly doing text-based stuff, so you won't hog the connection so
much.

I can basically use mine for a few hours at a time anywhere in the house

Dumpsters for DSL, that's a first, I must admit. But a pretty sweet
deal, nonetheless! You'll love it if youve only had dial-up til now.

I'll take you up on letting you know what I need: spare parts!!!!

Seriously, I love y'all back. In here, I'm an equal, and that's
better than any pill that any doc has given me so far. (Well, maybe
except in Faramir's eyes, but he's a silly Frenchman, so what would
*he* know? LOL )

Ross *type*?!?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
Icy, if it ain't about football, forget it! Shoot, his desktop has been
sitting idle for as long as I've been away from here. I got it reformatted
for him, but haven't gotten around to plugging it in and adding the
keyboard, mouse, etc., back on it, and he hasn't even missed it. He uses
his "work laptop" all day to put in orders for customers, and after the
deadline at 5:00pm, he doesn't go near it again unless he absolutely
HAS to.
(We're not even participating in our Yahoo fantasy golf league this
year, that's how bad we are lately.)

Don't worry- now that I have this skookum little laptop, even if
I can't crawl out of bed I'll be able to lie there and tappity-tap posts.
I wish we'd been able to get it sooner, but things happen for a reason,
huh? Good Neighbor Allen has just figured out wireless networking,
so I suppose *that* was the reason in this case. ;)

*Booger*!!!! I went through 6 Kleenex tissues and my nose is

Touchpads, in general, suck mightily. That's only my opinion
of course. I've had to help Ross find and fix some Windows
problems on his laptop, and before I got him a mouse I damn
near went nuts trying to navigate around using that pad. Ish!

They're barely tolerable in a cramped airliner seat, where you don't have
elbow room for a mouse. I also don't like laptop keyboards, so I bring
along a keyboard or borrow one when traveling. I plug the keyboard into the
PS2 jack and my mouse into the USB.

The displays, OTOH, are pretty usable in a game. My roommate has a 17" HP
with a matching hostname: He took it to work and plugged it into the
corporate network, and everyone was amused to see "My Big 17 Inch" appear
in their browser.

No, but I breakfast on coke (liquidy brown stuff, not powdery white
stuff), lunch on coke, dine on coke and food, and typically go to bed
too late and wake up far earlier than should be legal, in my humble
opinion at the time.

Still usually between 08:00 and 10:00, so not too bad, but it FEELS
horrible.

Anyway, I take my free time when I can, and sometimes when I can't.

So, to iterate a question I forgot to ask, which you've answered a
million times already anyway: how're you?

ROFL One of the reasons this Gateway beat out a comparable
Compaq is the screen. The Compaq had a 14" display, but this one
is 15".
I'm sort of glad it took me so long to acquire a laptop- not only
are the prices a little more reasonable, but the features have improved
greatly in the last few years.

Let me measure, but it uses a standard DL 2032............

Whoof, it's square, 1 & 15/16ths x 1 & 15/16ths. But it's
thin, at 1/4 inch.

Thrasher has a toggle switch in one side, otherwise the
black plastic case could be smaller, say an inch and a half
by an inch and a quarter.

Wait wait wait- I've seen what you need! Go to any mall,
look for the cheapie jewelry kiosks. They have kiddie stuff
with one or more wee LEDs. The ring tops would be perfect!!
Plus, they're only a couple of dollars.

Hee hee, gotcha. I was about to ask you if you were hooked
yet, but I got my answer. ;) I've just finished cleaning my
glass/clay room in preparation for Christmas prezzies.
Need any patterns? I can direct you to tons online. I'm not
sending you glass, though- I've found some of my wooden
doodads I've carved that I'm going to unloa.....er, gift you with.
You were the cabinet maker, right?

Who wants glass for Christmas?
A polymer clay gift?
A knitted blankie?
Something made of wood?
A candle? Or candles?
Something totally far out?

Far out. ;)

I looked at the TinkyCane. Is that like the toffee xmas tree they make at
Jelly Belly, where they start with a log about a foot across with a tree
cross section, and then roll it thin until it's about a 1/2 inch across,
and slice off disks with the image of the little tree inside? Maybe you
need a toffee-rolling machine! I think I saw the process on Unwrapped.

Exactly like the toffee! I (and every other polymer clay peep)
would LOVE a roller that wouldn't distort the image during reduction.
Man, what a giant pain to reduce the large ones. And if try to keep the
diameter small when building the cane, you can't really put in much detail
without a microscope......LOL

Tell me about it. Have you ever tried to recreate an image in a cane? Here
is an old quarter size (and hard to get a close-up shot of) cane I did to
make nick nacks for my disc golf club:
http://quixote.sandlewoodtx.net/badgalittle.jpg

This is not the best cane either, which was obviously cut up and used, but
rather the remnant. I could not find any of the baked work.

Here is the original drawing:

I'm impressed! I think you did a great job. Last year I tried to create
a fully decorated Christmas tree cane. When the huge mass got to be about
10 pounds, I gave up and took it apart. No way I could have reduced that!
Maybe I'll try it again, albeit smaller........

Now, this is cool. You've done clay, you're doing glass, and you've
mastered wood. Are you related to any McCranie's? ;)

Oh, and if you want to learn fusing, or slumping, or are curious about
