*gack* back after CU

| I was gone for like a year.
I logged on and found the combat overhaul had happened and my
smuggler/tkm guy was completely not something I could play like I used to.
Nudfuh were wiping the floor with me.
I couldn't get ANY missions from the mission terminal that I could do by
myself.
I keep closing the respec window without using it because I don't have a
clue what to do right now.
What DO I do right now? It's like a completely different game. I can't
kill stuff like I used to. I don't want to group. I don't really like
PvP much but don't mind at base vulnerability times helping out and such.
But just to go kill some pve stuff something's gotta change. Any tips?
Any good place to suggest someone go to relearn the game or at least get
the Cliff notes version of the changes?

| A few observations as a Pre-CU TK who's survived the CU, but not with their
main character.
1. Mixing Brawling and Ranged combat Profs is counterproductive. If you
want to be TK primarily, then you may want to look at another Brawling
profession to extra punch. Swordsman for damage or Pikeman for debuffs. If
you prefer the smuggler side, you probably want to get a ranged profession
to help out. Pistoleer has good crowd control abilities to buff up the
Smuggler CCing, Rifles for damage, BH for all around dirty fighting,
Carbines for Raw Power. The reason for this is that specials work within
the broad category of skills... If you have Armor Break from 2H Sword
skills, you can use that with ANY brawling weapon, even completely unarmed
fists. Likewise if you have Unarmed flurry (or whatever the best TK skill
is) you can do that with a 1000+ Damage Power Hammer. You would however not
be able to use a Smuggler's Concussion Shot with any brawling weapon... But
it would work well with the T21 that a Master Rifleman can use, just as a
Proton Carbine from a MBH. (This ties in with Point 4)
2. TKM has Pretty good Natural Armor, around a 6000 rating or so. If you
wear any armor, you lose access to that natural armor & use whatever the
armor's rated at. Pre-CU armor is generally going to be lower than 6000
protection.
3. Center of Being is vital. TK gets the best CoB in the game. It raises
defense dramatically which decreases hits on you and when you're hit, you
take less damage.
4. Weapons are now certed for Levels and/or professions. If you want to
use Unarmed fighting, a Blaster Fist is the best commonly available unarmed
weapon, there are some better, but they'll be expensive and/or hard to come
by. VKs generally aren't a great weapon once you're Master. Even other
brawling weapons will make a difference. 2H swords will get the benefit of
the 2H Sword line in Brawler for accuracy. My TK normally carries either a
2H or Pike weapon for extra damage when things get dicey.
5. Respecing is easy. Each tier of skills is worth X respec points. So if
(and these are not necessarily accurate, I don't remember the real
values)... for an elite class it's 8 points for Novice, 9 for tier 1, 10
for tier 2, 11 for tier3, 12 for tier 4, 13 for Master.... All other elite
classes will have the same exchange rate... Except for Ranger which is 1
higher for each level.
Therefore, if you were going to for instance, drop smuggler and pick up 2H
Sword... in the respec window (not the skill window) surrender each smuggler
skill and then the pistol line of marksman (don't respec away Novice Markman
if you can help it... Novice Basic professions can screw up the
calculations) and then pick up the 1H sword line of Brawler, Novice
Swordsman and each box of Swordsman up to Master. Click OK on the respec
screen and you'll now be TKM/MSwords. That's just an example though.
Hope that helps, if you have more questions, ask.
Thanks

My main character is a TKM and I find the role as the main tank in a group
pretty fun. Keeps you on your toes so the braindead riflemen and whatnot
can flick their boogers at the mobs.
I have a different number of characters on the Tarquinas server, so feel
free to send me a cross server tell or mail with any questions you have.
tarquinas.maestro
tarquinas.narcisse
tarquinas.atva
tarquinas.zacharias
Oh yeah, we miss you over in ART. :-)

I'm not a grouper. I'm thinking perhaps TKM/Smuggler isn't anything I'm
going to be able to do anything with any more so I respeced the TKM
away... then you posted. Damn the timing! :P

As a TKM, I can solo pretty much anything my level. Stuff higher than me
will give me toruble but is still possible if I'm careful.
No armor or weapons needed. Can't go wrong there, IMO.

/tell tarquinas.maestro
Once I reply, you don't have to specify the server again, just press control
R.
Get XFire...it works with tons of games and doesn't require you to alt-tab
out to chat.

Ain't like I ever post there myself anyways...

| RiffleMan and Master BH are the current FOTM templates. BH gives you a KD
shot and a dizzy shot, RM gives you a snare shot, Plus there are 2 cyborg
arms which will give you +25 to range, so from 60+ meters you can go prone,
sniper shot (very hard hitting), dizzy, KD and then sniper again

mmmm cyborg arms. I heard about them, and have now heard about them
again... but I've yet to SEE one. It's killing me. I wanna have one hehehe.
Do they show up as a graphic or are they so good you can't tell them
from the real thing (I wanna be able to see it)

There are 3 quests you can do (for 3 different arms) 2 ranged and 1 res arm.
And you can see them on your toon

This is why I left the game. As hard as it was to reach jedi, it was still
possible. So much has changed that it is "not" the same game. The game has
become a group playing game. Basically, if you are like I was, which it
sounds like you are, I only participated in the civil war when I did not
have to play PvP. I liked going off on my own for XP and I called for help
only when I couldn't do something without it. If you want to play with
friends, go for it. I will only return when the platform has been altered
again.
Sorry to sound so depressing, but that is the unfortunate truth.

Thank you. I saw a guy with a robot arm and followed him around like
some slack-jawed, mouth-breathing n00b for like 2 minutes staring at it.
I didn't say anything, trying to play it off like I really wasn't
staring at him... but I was.
Now to find the quests.
Thank you!

| You know I just came back after a year away and my Smuggler/pistoleer
was in a sorry state... I had to laugh cause I came online and was
killed on site by an startled stormtrooper. I had logged out in the
middle of Mos Eisly and possible was flagged at the time or something
cause boom I was down and needed a good cloning...
So here it is...
I am in the same boat I want to use my rejig tool to it's fullest
advantage. I like the smuggler RP and I love the pistoleer fightr
style... But I have alot of other skills as I was soloist so I have
scout a bit of med a bit of this and that. I think I should use this
tool to focus on Smuggler/pistoleer. Keeping some of the brawler since
thats my stream to go jedi (though this is unimportant to me).
After playing again for 9 days or so what do you recommend I do?
Larwa Slyman
Gorath.

I *loved* smuggler/TKM. Note the past tense?
I couldn't *do* anything or so I thought. So I went with the flavor of
the hour and slung together a pistoleer, Combat medic with some explorer
and entertainer (for the inspiration 10%). It's OK. I can do people
missions pretty handily. My thing is I like doing critter missions, and
I can't get any that give XP that won't wax me. I can't get them with
either mission.
I'd not change anything yet if I were you. You've got at least a week
from first log in after CU that you can respec every day I think it
was... do some humanoid missions and see how they go for you. It's
possible that my old/original TKM/Smuggler was viable after all with
humanoids but not with critters. It seems animals have been moved to
some new unkillable level while killing people is about all I can do now
for XP. If I'd tried that before respecing I might still be the original
class.
Smuggler/Pistoleer at least supports themselves. Seriously, give it a go
with some humanoid missions and see how it goes before making any
changes, and remember you can respec, or at least I could. Let me qualify.
But, BH/CM seems to work, but there's like a zillion of us out there.
