There is an easier way to get away from the whining then to stop playing the
game - its called dont read the forums or the newsgroups as thats where the
majority of complaining is ;)
I've never once seen people in game whinging, only on the forums and
newsgroups (if your in a guild that has whiners thats simple to, change
guilds ;))

No. You cannot escape them because they have traditionally been the
ones that the developers listen to.
And that's the reason the game was/is so borked up!

THAT is exactly the point. But the ones to blame are those people, that did
not spend the time whining on the forums. Those people that were playing
the game. Those people that were having fun:
WE!
We are to blame ourselves for not paying attention to those whining kiddies
on the forums. We should have been whining against them. Once the EP3 hype
has calmed down, most every noob that joined with the CU will leaveagain.
The servers will be dead (if not already) and soon merge. Sad, very sad.

The servers are far from dead, lots of people seem to keep *thinking* that
its dead or dying but the servers I see say the opposite there are players
all over the place every where I go (coro is as laggy as ever and always
will be). So much for the dying game that everyone keeps claiming it is
(they are probably people who quit and just hope because they quit they game
is going to die along with them), none of the player cities that I visit all
the time have been downgraded either (which I have expected after seeing all
these people "claiming" to be quitting the game all over the forums and news
groups, but they are all still there and all still metropolis's). There are
active vendors all over the place and not as many noobs as you might think,
so dying? I think not, plenty of vets are still playing, but guess what?
They are playing not whinging on forums or newsgroups
The only thing that does worry me is all the "I am qutting" messages might
turn off potential new players because they too think, by reading the forums
the game is going downhill in players so I hope some do speak up in its
defense .
The 10 messages on the forums/news groups a week that say "I am quitting"
are a minority when you look at the fact that there is 1000's of accounts
over several servers, all they serve to do is make it look worse then it is
(which is annoying really gives the community a bad feeling when its not
nessesary).

True they are not deserted, and i cant speak for other servers but
Valcyn is down by at least 50%. Most nights Coronet is a ghost town and
so is the Village on Dathomir. Towns do seem to be stable but then if
those that are leaving are like me they put several million on their
houses to keep them from goin poof in case they change their minds
later. My main account is still good till July 15th but my other is
already deactivated. For those who are enjoying the CU, fine, but dont
belittle our very valid complaints. I may reactivate my main before it
expires but it will be in spite of the CU not because of it. SOE handled
this whole thing in a very player unfriendly way, and for that they
deserve my undieing contempt. I love the game so much and i am beginning
to figure ways around all the bugs on top of bugs, so i may stay. To all
those wearing Bug blinders and SOE kneepads, Piss off. I paid as much as
you and can XXXXX if i want to, lol.

Population drops in all games is to be expected. To say that it was due to
the CU though I don't believe. The fact of the matter is the population drop
in our guild in SWG happened when World of Warcraft and EQ2 came out. Which
was well before the CU was put in to place.
Like all large communities online, there is still a limited number of people
overall, so when more and more games come out of a similar genre (IE MMO's)
There are going to be less players over all playing each game because
instead of being compacted in to one or two MMO's they are now spread out
over a dozen different MMO's. Over all in the online gaming community there
is still a limited number of players, while its a massively huge number when
its spread out over more and more games a drop in numbers per game is
noticed.
The other fact is people need a change as well and when an option for change
is around they'll take it (we also have people who switch between one game
to the next and back again when they get bored simply because they need a
change of pace).

One factor you may have missed is that the cancellations due to the CU
have only just begun to show up in the game since many accounts like
mine that were cancelled are still active for 3 - 6 months. Give it
another 3-5 months to see the true damage caused by the CU exodus, I
admit i could be wrong, i kinda hope so.

Do you people who think that even still play the game yourselves?? Because I
play the game every day for hours and talk to many people along the way, all
of whom have no intentions of leaving it any time soon and really enjoy the
changes made in the CU. Take a good look around there are still plenty of
guilds that are still functioning (at least one of which im looking at
joining right now that are allied with 3 to 4 other guilds that are still
functioning well also), many of these guilds which i talk about on our
server have been around since SWG started.
So, those who think this game is dying are going to get a surprise in a
couple of years time when its still going arent they?

Mind explaining me then, why the people decided to "need a change" just
when the CU hit? Mind explaining me then why after CU like 70% of the jedi
got ebayed? And while you are busy explaining that you might want to check
the "general game discussion" forums and count those "10 people" again.
Maybe you want to talk to a few people INGAME as well. From like 50 people
that I've been talking to (on raids and after PvPing) 48 HATE the CU. Those
2 that liked it just started a few days ago. The only reason servers like
Bria and Ahazi are still medium populated is just because of it is a Star
Wars game.....not because everyone likes the CU. Wait a few weeks...when
all those "The-CU-rawks"-newbie players that came after watching EP3 quit
again. THEN you will see how many people really quit because of the CU.
Once the EP3 hype settled down the time is near for the server merge. I
started playing again, but just because I couldn't delete my jedi. I put
too much time and work in it. THAT'S why I play again..not that much as
before tho. Like an hour or two per day and I am fed up again.

Was wondering, when did you start playing SWG ?

I just realised that anyone could write down a number of days and say that
is how long they have been playing but what indication does anyone have that
its actually true?
So if this helps any I was there when holocrons where given out as an xmas
present, I was there when a strange art work piece was given as an xmas
present (cant actually remember if that was the same year or not, was a long
time ago now). When player cities didn't exsist, and how much fun it was
when we placed down our first city hall. When you had to wait like 10
minutes for a shuttle to go anywhere (which was reduced to 5 minutes and
then later to 1 or 2 minutes or whatever it is now, short anyhow compaired
to how it used to be). I remember hours of speculation from guildies on how
to unlock Jedi's. When badges were first placed in the game.
I'm sure I could probably list a lot more things that have been added over
the last 2 years that weren't originally in the game but I think this should
be enough for the time being .

Yeah that sounds about right on the timing. Also player mounts were added
around when the player cities were added. I actually still have my first
ever mount in my datapadd, a lesser plains bol which I'll probably never
delete for sentimental reasons . I had a house on correllia for a little
while before the player cities were added to the game so I'd say I probably
started playing about 3 months before they were bought in to the game but
thats just a rough estimate, then we placed our first city hall down on
Talus for a while until the guild changed over from AN (Aurora Nocturn) to
SW (Southern Wardens) due to our guild leader no longer playing and us
having no way at that time to change leadership over we disbanded and
reformed, when we did that we also joined with SC on Naboo in the city
Southern Citadel, between the two PA's we bought the cities rank up to
Metropolis and my house is still there today .
We were an imperial stronghold on Naboo for a while but us being aussie and
the rest of the game being mostly US based the bases kept getting taken down
during our night time US day time when we had no one around to defend them,
so we removed all faction bases from our city for a few months then
eventually our mayor (Ishute) decided to get a pact going on the planet were
we placed Rebel and Imperial bases for a PVP ground as it where the deal was
if no one took down the bases on either side then all the bases would remain
for however many pvp events we wanted . Lasted for a while till eventually
they were all taken down and now the city is baseless again lol. It's
possible some valcyn players might remember pvping at Southern Citadel on
Naboo as it used to happen on a fairly regular basis.
