Author Serious Question SWG vis a vis WoW

While I'm sure it sounded more like a flippant comment in my recent posting
to Rastus' answer to the "does it worth" thread, my question was serious.

Since there are a lot of people that play or played WoW in this group, I
suspect someone has an answer. As a side note, I despise Warcraft, I have
since Warcraft 1, so I'm not asking with the interest of switching games,
I'm just curious...

Does WoW have any class/classes that are completely social or completely
crafting oriented? Something that couldn't hurt a rabbit (durnie) if their
life depended on it? While I certainly do not shy from combat, I do like
playing the crafting and social characters that are possible in SWG (however
'handicapped' some people may see them as being).

My initial question was: Can I play a Master Dancer/Master Image Designer
in WoW? I am serious in this... Is this possible? Likewise, is there a
genre equivalent possibility of playing a Master Artisan/Master
Tailor/Master Shipwright/0434 Merchant?

Thanks

The different between the WoW crafting and the SWG crafting is that the WoW
crafting FORCES you to combat, the SWG Crafting does not.. You can get your
crafter up to max crafting profession without every having had to pick up a
weapon in SWG.. WoW on the other hand you -have- to be a certian level
character before your allowed to train a certain level crafting skill (Level
40 for the most advanced I believe). A lot of the WoW crafted items are made
from things that drop in the game as well based on certain creature levels,
and other things require you to go in to areas with very scary creatures in
them if your a low level character that there is almost zero chance you
would ever be able to move through and live to be able to mine resource
viens yourself (no harvesters to do this for you its all manual). I remember
at level 15 trying to even walk in to a level 50 area.. the creatures had
agro that large that I didn't even get 10 steps in to the zone before i
died, and then died a further three times trying to run back out to the area
that was designed for my level again.

There also is no dancers or image desingers or the like in there, there is
no reason what so ever in WoW to be a purely social orientated character
over a combat character, taverns are used only to log in to the game and lot
out of the game, cities are only used to pick up quests, do shopping or
travel through when going to other areas.

There is a profession equal to Tailor in the game (there are player
clothings that are not nessesarily armor based - they have no stats they are
purely for decerative reasons, there's also cloth wearers for cloth items
that have stats on it), not that ive ever really seen anyone running around
in the game wearing anything other then thier stat clothings/armor. With no
space obviously there is no shipwright, and there is no artisan like
profession or merchant (all trade is done on the bazaar, one bazaar located
in one main city per faction - one for horde one for alliance, and then one
other bazaar located elsewhere that both factions can use togeather). But
again, in order to actually train up to "master" you have to be at least
level 40 on your character.

World of Warcraft and SWG are very simply two very different style of MMO's.
Overall World of Warcraft is very much like Everquest only quest based for
gaining xp rather then just grinding on creatures (instead you grind on
quests - which for some strange reason some people think this is more fun,
personally after leveling several toons through this system i didnt see any
difference and went back to SWG for its vast varietion in game play styles).
High end WoW is very raid based, so unless you like spending a lot of time
in anything from 15 - 50 man raids don't even bother, because you'll end up
with nothing left to do once you hit lvl 60. (personally i hate raiding with
a passion - much prefer single group content mixed with some solo content
for when my friends aren't online or are busy)

World of Warcraft is a level based combat MMO, there's no other way I can
think of to describe it. There are no pure crafters. There are no pure
social classes. Socialising is all based around combat. Its faster then
games like everquest to level your character up there, it does cater some
what to more casual players (char being logged out = gaining rest xp, rest
xp is double normal xp). But like every other MMO i have ever played the
social aspect of it doesn't even come close to the SWG social community. But
having said that I am a role player, of course SWG is going to appeal to me
more because it has the perfect set up to emerse yourself and your character
in to role playing.

In a word.... No.

All classes in WoW are ntended for combat be it PvE or PvP.

Crafting in WoW is superficial. Potions, Armor enhancements, Some
weapons for lower levels till better becomes available through drop or
purchase. Armor is much the same. Enchanting to enhance items.

I will be the first to say that SWG has it down pat when it comes to
crafting. Some might say it's far too complicated. I liked the way the
entire world, not Galaxy was furnished almost compleatly with player
made items!! Houses, Weapons, Vehicles, Clothing, Armor.... What a
concept!!!! THose who wandered into the empty virtual world had, I
think, the BEST experience of all. *IF* they did so with exploration
and learning the new world in mind first and foremost. *IF* they had
the idea of creating a "World" and not just an arena for the elite
wars (Jedi Chases).

WoW lacks some elementa that SWG has. It has others that SWG has not
achieved.... most noticably a balance between the gonzo PvP and PvE
play styles. There has not been a lot of class tweaking or "Nerfing"
as of yet but I fear some is coming. In this respect WoW has a lot
over SWG in that you can develope a character and enjoy the fruits of
your labors. Maybe it's cause you can have multiple characters on one
account. That's one thing I never liked about SWG... One character.

In short, they are two entirely different games. Comparing them would
be like comparing Apples to Oranges. Just cannot be done logically.

No - to become a master craftsman you will need to raise your combat level
considerably, at least to level 40.

The most common method for those who don't like "the violence inherent in
the system" is to got a Preist and spec in Holy and just group with other
people all the time. Of course this is just violence by proxy as the group
mates you are healing will be busy repressing" the local moblife.
