Hi!

I'm thinking of picking up this game and start playing it. I have little
experience of MMORPGs, just a bit of UO and lots of RuneScape.
What's the main pros and cons compared to other similar games? How
userfriendly is it to get into? What's my chanses to enjoy it beeing a
person who doesn't like PvP very much (I just get killed all the time
anyway).
Any particular sites you sugest I should check out, anything to read up on?
Is there any free trial anymore to check out the gameplay and interface?
Can you get by with just a regular mouse and keyboard or do you need any
extra controllers (Askinga s I saw you can fly ships as well).

Any suggestions and advice for a newvie would be apreciated and wellcome!!

Best Wishes
Thomas

Yes there is a free trial (I'm on it right now), but I can't find any site's
that have info/guides without having to pay. (I'm not cheep, I just dont
want to pay to join a site only to decide I don't like the game.)

As far as being compared to Runescape it's kinda the same with better
graphics. Missions are go get this, go kill that and tell other guy
something.

The interface is a little unfriendly, it has lots of help pop ups that tell
you what things do but not how.

You have to use keyboard to move instead of mouse, which is fine in FPSs but
not so good in 3rd person games.

So far I like it, but only so far as I'm not paying yet, we'll see what
happens when I have to loose money to play.

I hope this helps a little and if anybody can add more I'd really appreciate
it as well.

I'm really not the best person to respond to this, but I see no one else has
yet. I played for over six months. Unfortunately, it was during all the
problem updates. I wasn't happy with the way things turned out.

I really enjoyed flying; I made master rebel pilot. You have to buy the
expansion Jump to Lightspeed to fly. You can transfer from planet to planet
regardless though. Revenge of the Wookies is another expansion. Haven't
played it. Now Trials of Obi-Wan will be the latest expansion due out
November 1rst. Unless you preorder. Basically, you will need other players
to assist in missions. You don't have to PvP, but you will have PvE. Until
you get some serious experience under your belt, you will get your XXX
handed to you. After you have mastered a combat profession, you will still
find certain enemies that take you out in no time. But, it wouldn't be
realistic if you could kill everything single-handed.

You will have to ask for help from other players and experiment on your own.
The interface can be confusing, so don't be afraid to yell at someone for
tips. If you go to swg.com, you will find some "free" info but only after
you have started your free trial. Not sure how much of it is free to
everyone. Haven't been there in months.

The way I see it, you have a few basic choices. Space flight, combat,
crafting and mining, and the other professions like dancer and doctor. Jedi
is something that will take a very very very very very very very long time.
Don't expect to reach Jedi in a few months. People who kept their toons
active illegally or had no life and stayed at their computer could grind
Jedi in 4 or 5 months, but their computers were running 24/7. This game is
not for people who just want to play occassionally without direction. It is
very much an ongoing experience that some people have been pay for since the
first day SWG went online. That was a few years ago.

I hope this helps at least a little. Like I said, I'm a bit biased against
it because the devs won't leave it alone and rarely listen to players. The
last big problem was the combat upgrade and they ignored literally tens of
thousands of players posting to the same thread stating things had to
change. This went on for a couple of months. From what I hear, it sounds as
though the game is returning to what it was originally.

the enw one coming.

I don't want that either, I want it to be tough so you fgeel you have
achieved somethingw hen you win, I just don't want to loose EVERy time ;)
(Also I ahte PvP only enviroment where high level peeps hunt you down just
for fun.. that completely ruins a game for me).
BTW, what happends when you die here? What's the penalties for doing that?

swg.com?? tried both .com and .net, neitehr was related to the game.

I like to explore, fight a bit, but also very much to gather resources and
learn how to make things and make enough from that to pay for what I need in
my adventuring.

Naturally that doesn't mean that much to me thougha s I ahve nothing to base
any comparisons on.
[vbcol=seagreen]

I've googled and found nothing but a trial that expried in 2004, any
information on how and where to start testing the game would be apreciated
as there's no way I'll fork up all the cash needed to get started based on
just some screengrabs.
[vbcol=seagreen]

LoL, to be honest though, as far as the graphics goes you can say that about
just about any game. What I like about RuneScape though is that there's so
many things to do, different ways to look, things to learna dn practice etc
etc...
[vbcol=seagreen]

Woot, no mouse usage at all? JUST keyboard??
[vbcol=seagreen]

From what I can see it costs about the same to play as WoW which isn't
exactly cheap (but SWG has the Star Wars thing going for it! ).
[vbcol=seagreen]

Me too, always interesting to hear different opinions.

Best Wishes
Thomas

You are sent to a cloning tank. All your items get a decay penalty. One
thing though, you must insure your items. You do that in the same building
as the cloning tank. The game has gone through so many changes that I'm not
sure what the penalty is down to the letter. Personally, I think if your
stuff is insured, there should be no decay. In the past, you also had to
visit a doctor and entertainer after cloning cuz of damage. Now, I'm not
sure.

$14.95 per month is the charge. Try the above link to see if there are any
deals going right now. New users should be able to get a free trial. If you
can't find anything on the site, try calling Sony. Surely there is a contact
number or email at the link. Just let them know you are new, and they'll
verify it.

An excellent site that I've had answer some questions is:

http://www.atombender.de/swgwiki/index.php/Guides

There are some walkthroughs and such on that site as well, but they are
marked so if you don't want that type of help, then you can ignore it. I
haven't yet done anything that required a walkthrough except a run at the
Rebel Corvette last night, and I wasn't leading that group.

The game is pretty addictive if you ask me. I've spent slow days at work
sitting at my desk planning on what I was going to do when I got home and
was able to play for a couple hours. :-)

Make money, don't sell your BARC for anything, find a guild to join, and
just go explore.
