I'm a Rebel Pilot currently flying a Y-Wing. Should I go for a
Longprobe certification or better equipment skill. I know you can link
both weapons with the long probe but does it have any other
advantages? Does it have more mass? I'd like better equipment on the
Y-Wing but it is that worth it? Will I be limited in that sense over
the Longprobe? What good is lvl 5 components if the ship is too
limiting mass wise? Dam that's alot of questions. Any advice
appreciated. Thanks.

I just had the same problem. I went for better equipment.

Now, as for the Longprobe. I think it has just a little more mass....
but what I noticed FIRST was the engined I has in my Y Wing that had
turn accelerations of 80.... dropped to 70 when I dropped them in the
Longptobe.

As a rule I ALWAYS get the Components box first. Then skills... then it
pretty much doesn't matter. My Dunelizard holds up pretty good, but then
again I don't really use droid commands, so...

Hmm depends on your current equipment. Really good level 3 stuff can
be better than average level 5 stuff. Take the longprobe if you have
a good level 3 capiator and 2 good level 3 weapons. Otherwise go for
better equipment - especially if you already have some good level 5
stuff.

Well I went for better equipment, but as others have said you need to
fill Tier 2 to progress to tier 3 so don't get too hung up on
choosing. (only took me an evening to do the whole of Tier 2)
