Current path to jedi
|
|
|
| Can someone point me to (or explain) what the current path to becoming a
jedi is? I understood about the holos and the profession path, but I
left for several months and just rejoined and haven't been able to piece
together the new way to become a jedi.
thanks

| If you look below in the posts, you'll see one entitled "Force Sensitive?"
posted by, Dan P. The first response to that, by David Cherry is the best
write-up on it I've seen.

Then I must have missed something. When I read the post that I was
pointed to, it didn't say anything about having to grind. It said I
needed 1 profession badge, 5 content badges and several POI badges. The
profession and the POI badges are nothing (I'm working on my profession
anyway), so perhaps the content badges are a grind? Where is the grind?
What is it that I'm missing?

| I had posed a comment on the path from Padawan to Jedi a few weeks back.
The Subject was "What if I become Padawan." That will take you from the
Force Sensitive Grind to Jedi...
However, getting to/through the Force Senstiive Grind involves this:
Get yourself to "glowing with the force" following the steps in the post you
were referenced to.
Once you're glowing, you'll be visited by an old man. He will give you a
Force Crystal.
Following this, 2 Sith Shadows will attack you. (Even an artisan with no
combat skills can beat them if necessary).
You raid their camp and get a waypoint to the village on Dathomir.
Once you arrive on dathomir you'll have an opportunity to get any free
unlocks of Force Sensitive Skills you may have by virtue of Holo-grinding
previously (if you have any). The requirements to advance to become Jedi
are that you train 6 full lines of Force Sensitive Skills. Each line
requires 1.25 Million Force Sensitive XP which you gain by trading in other
XP types. (Specific weapons XP for instance converts at 30:1, Combat XP
converts at 3:1)
Without going into the quests and village phases... this gathering XP to
convert to FS XP is the grind that's being referred to. I was a Post-9
unlocker, so I was given all 6 lines of XP and progressed to the next stage.
Those that had some holo-credit may have 1-5 lines of skills unlocked for
them for free. If this applies to you, unlock a line and then train it
immediately otherwise you'll lose the extra XP you're given.
I realize this may not be as helpful as I'd like. If you have questions,
please let me know.
Thanks

NIB came back??
Well goodness, if he's back maybe I really ought to. ;-)
Laura
remembers him being quite vehement about the game

| Ah! Ok. I see the confusion. That path to Jedi is a grind. The path to
becoming force sensitive isn't. I was saying jedi but really just meant
to become force sensitive.
Thanks for the great writeup.

Heh, you must have a good memory :D This is actually the second time
I've come back. The last time didn't even last a month.
I'm back but not as a droid engineer. I've decided crafting isn't for
me. :D I'm working towards a Rifleman/Ranger this time. Having fun so
far, about to make master scout and already a novice rifleman.

So do you recommend it then??

Guess it depends on why you left. When I left it was because I was a
Droid Engineer and had no real purpose. Droids were just a luxury,
nothing really necessary and after a few months of paying my fee like a
good little beta tester, I was told it would be a minimum of 3 months
before they got to the DE profession. So that was another 3 months of me
paying to beta test their product, which I refused to do.
So, fast forward to now. What sent me back to SWG was utter boredom with
everything else and *desperately* wanting a MMORPG to play. I tried EQ
and that kept me happy for about 2 months. Nothing else worth playing. A
friend of mine was getting back into it so I figured I'd give it a try,
just to have something to do.
Honestly, as to whether I'd recommend it, it really depends on why you
left. Speeders are cool and make doing missions much easier and less
painful. Mounts are in, which look cool but I haven't messed with them
yet. The path to becoming a padawan seems easier and something that
casual gamers can actually accomplish. I don't know, I guess all in all
I have to say that SWG is pretty cool. It still has its problems and
there is a major combat revamp coming down the road. I've never dealt
with any of the current balance issues so that doesn't matter to me one
way or the other. Right now I'm just enjoying hunting and playing my
style and not worrying about everyone else. *shrug*

| Actually, it's partly a grind...the path to 'glowing'. You have to do the
poi's, etc...
However, living the experience, I want to elaborate on what Psy said. At
the current conversion rates, it will take approx. 80mill of normal combat
and weapons xp just to get Initiate. And, it will take a minimum of 5-6
months, if you get no credit for holos.
Then, when you reach initiate, you are pretty much defenseless and
offenseless. Basically, you suck. So, now you have to grind Jedi from
scratch. And, if you ever get listed on the terms, you will lose close to
300k xp, every time you get killed by a PC.
In short, it's not worth it to me. I never wanted to be a Jedi. I started
to think that I did, when all of the other 'content' died (got killed by
shoddy developers). But, after living with a few already Jedi and realizing
not only how hard it is just to even retain your current skills, but that
that entire profession has actually killed pvp....and it's not the Jedi'
fault....I've gotta say, it's not the grind that makes me not want to be
Jedi. It's the stupid XXXXing dev's and how they, continually, break this
game (over, and over, and over) that makes me wanna wretch.
So, I'm taking my main as far as the line of melee speed and that's it. I'm
taking my third alt to commando/rifles (already is rifles, was cm/rifles)
just so I can have fun again. I miss Commando. Was my first elite. Sucks
for pvp (by itself, or even with TKM), but I want to try something new and
combine it with rifles. Should be interesting (at least the grind). PvP
is dead, yet again, so I'm going to use this time to get back to where I was
a year ago.....having fun and learning. This game has become very
loathsome, in lots of respects. Unfortunately, I owe it to all 160+ of my
guild mates to try and keep interest, in this thing that SOE calls 'content'
and a 'game'.
I, really, don't think JTL is going to save this game. Sorry for the
negative opinion.

Ugh. Well, sounds like I won't ever be a jedi, not that I had a big
desire anyway. Oh well.
