In the past I have recomended Anarchy Online as an alternative to SWG.
Although the game is run a bit better than swg the latest expansion
Alien Invasion is a piece of crap. Almost none of the promised
features have panned out and its a border-line case of fraud
considering the claims they made to sell it. Needless to say I no
longer suggest doing biz with FunCom.

Not saying SWG now looks any better either in fact its worse but FCs
actions here are unforgivable. Guess we are down to waiting on WoW
(but so very close) and even perhaps EQ2 though dont count on SoE to
produce a killer game.

I'd be interested to hear SWG players opinions of WoW. From what I've
heard I'm not sure I'll like it. How does the gameplay compare to
SWG? What's good about it? What don't you like?

I'm resigned, for now, to waiting for Middle Earth Online. Basically
because of the setting.

I too am waiting for Middle Earth Online. I have high hopes considering the
setting and that most RPGs are Tolkein derivatives. I've only seen a few
screenshots but have heard little about the gameplay as I believe it's still
in Alpha. Anyone hear any more about it?

uh..based on the latest word I've heard, don't expect anything too
revolutionary. Just another run of the mill fantasy MMORPG.

So you are paying for world and character copyright access. Sounds
sadly like SWG. It will be interesting to see how "The Matrix" MMOG
does, I suspect these licensed MMOG may bank more on product
popularity then quality of game play, time will tell.

That's exactly what it sounded like to me.

And, you're right on the current mess of MMORPGs coming out. It is all
about name recognition, not about revolutionary (or even evolutionary)
game play: Matrix, MEO, D&D and WoW. All are just "hey, wouldn't it be
cool to do a MMORPG in X world" type games. None of them, from what I've
read, are doing anything that new. I could be wrong (I hope I am), but I
doubt it.

Looking around the matrix website the only things that struck me were
:-

The Graphics looked awful
The website was very poor
How the hell will bullet time work?

I'm sure you're right about MEO but alas WoW doesn't really sound like
its going to be for me and I'm put off EQ2 because of SWG.

Difficult answer to post since open beta hasnt started but content
wise it will have it all over SWG. Personally Im going with WoW the
moment it opens and not looking back. Ive seen enough of SoE products
to know that the company who owns the game is at least as important as
the game itself. What good is a killer game run by a bunch of
assholes? Whats the odds of them even producing such a game? Slim and
none. Bliz has done some good work over the years, some big hits some
misses but SoE has never produced one well run well designed game
(Verant rescued EQ after sony bailed on it). FunCom is a one hit
wonder and they have managed to foul that up.

What Im saying is it may well be MORE important who is making
decisions on the game than what the game is at this moment in time.
The game can be made better by a good company, if the company sucks
the game will never improve.

This game is WAY in the future (eta 12/01/2005) but Tabula Rasa, being
developed by Richard Garriot (aka Lord British) looks quite interesting.
