D2X-W32 - Windows-specific Descent 2 OpenGL port

| Hi folks,
for all of you looking for a way to play Descent 1 and Descent 2 again
on modern hardware under a MS Windows OS, there is D2X-W32. D2X-W32 is
a windows-specific branch of the D2X project, containing a lot of bug
fixes and enhancements plus full support for playing D1 missions
including original D1 weapon physics (you simply need to copy
descent.pig to your D2 folder). Learn more on http://www.descent2.de or
directly on http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html.
If you have lost your Descent 2 CD, find a download of the minimally
required Descent 2 data here:
http://www.xof.de/uuuii/downloads/DESCENT2.rar
Note that I am not identical with the site owner, nor have I posted the
data there. The URL might look a little weird, but it's ok.

Good stuff, karx11erx.
Just d/led and installed on my W2K system - runs beautifully (except for the
hat :-)
Going to get on-line when I sort my IPX drivers out.

For the most part it works great for me. My only problem is that I can't
load saved games. When I try to restore a save it just sends me back to the
main menu. Any help is greatly appreciated.
System
WinXP Pro, SP2
Intel D865PERL mobo
Intel 3 GHz P4
1 GB PC3200 RAM (2x512)
ATI AIW 9600 Pro graphics card
200 GB WesternDigital ATA100 HD
Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Analog 2 gamepad

| Please make sure you have the most recent version. There are updates on
an almost daily base, and there had been problems with the save games
due to some recent save game format changes. These bugs have been
resolved. If the problems persist for you, please send one of your save
games to karx11erx at hotmail dot com.

That did it! The problem I had was with the version I downloaded two days
ago, but the latest version fixed it Many thanks, it's great to play the
game again on a modern PC.

This system sounds great, but...
I downloaded last night, it runs, but at about 0.4 fps - i.e. 2.5
seconds *per frame*! I assume I did something wrong.
I did a fresh install of D2 (windows version, not DOS - does that
matter?) and then unzipped the d2x-xl download into the descent2 folder.
System
Win 98SE
ECS KT600-A mobo
AMD Sempron 2800+
500MB Ram
FX5200 video
Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold
Any ideas what I did wrong?
Thanks
Mark

D2X-xl is a 32 bit program, yes? How on earth did it even START on W98? Or
am I missing something?
