Stuck at the beginning of Level 12 of Descent 3 ...

| .... after I shot the four buttons and the centre zapper I'm still held
captive by the force fields. I shot everything in sight but I'm still held.
I looked at a Walkthrough site which suggests shooting the forcefields 'at
the correct angle' which is not exactly helpful.
Any tips?

If you see sparks fly out from the hit location, then keep firing at that
position. IIRC, the correct angle is banked 90 degrees (to maximize
damage), near the far edge of the force field.
Alternativly, you can use guided missiles.

| Thanks but I still can't get anywhere. Can I try and get a couple of things
clear? I destroyed the torture mechanism and got the message 'the force
field generators should be vulnerable now'. Am I right to assume the 'force
field generators' are the two nozzles with what looks like flames or plasma
squirting out of them towards the ship, and NOT the two flickering red force
fields themselves? But you talk about the 'far edge of the force field' - am
I shooting the force field or the generator? And I don't see sparks fly out
from anything I try to hit. Do I shoot into the 'flames' or at the wall
where the flames come out? So far I have used every weapon on every square
inch of the room and nothing seems to happen.

It is if you simply take a closer look at the cutscene at the beginning of
the level which clearly shows where the generators are. Still I've linked
to a demo that shows how to do it from my demo page:
