| I feel like an idiot for posting this because I know this has been
beat to death. I just cannot find a solution for my issue.
I have a Dell Dimension L800r running Win ME. I think it's got 128 MB
ram. I know the PC is fine for D2 since my days of playing date back to
my old P75/3dfx setup.
The thing I do not understand is that my current PC has no vid card. The
vid input seems to go to the motherboard???
I want to get a new card for D2 and D3. I know that any 3dfx card will
do fine, but, isn't the 3dfx family of cards for 3D acceleration only?
My problem is that I would like to get a card that will function as a
graphics card as well as a 3D excellerator(SP?) since I only have one
PCI slot left and would like to get a new monitor as well.
I have spent so much time trying to figure out which card to get my wife
is about to shut me down.
Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated.
Also, I have tried to register on the DBB and cannot. The email confirm
is never sent??

| The Voodoo3 cards (2000 and 3000) are both 2D and 3d
but since the company was liquidated by Nvidia a few
years back you can only find these cards sold on Ebay
nowadays, sometimes for as low as 5 dollars.
If you do get a used 3dfx voodoo3 card you can still
download drivers for it from www.voodoofiles.com

Also be sure to get a pci card instead of a agp card, to fit your
motherboard.

Thank you very much for the info. I have found a guy who has NOS Voodoo5
5500 pci cards. Are these 2D as well?
Thanks

Yep, great choice. They will run D3 better. I haven't tried D3 on my
6800GT card yet, it should run 1600x1200 at 200fps I'd imagine

Sure. Mind you, once you get a new machine 3dfx cards probably won't
transfer to it because of a lack of OS support, so plan on keeping the whole
box as a unit for playing legacy games.
I recently bought a nvidia 6800GT for my box, and it's a pleasure to
gaze at the quality of games like doom3 & farcry at 1600x1200. Haven't
tried Descent3 with it yet, but have no doubt it will show 200+ frames/sec
at 1600x1200.
