How to run D2 on 2000/XP

| Hi,
I tried to install D2 on a Win2000 system, but i wasn't able to run it.
There're Service Pack 4 and all newer updates (i heard, that SP2 should
fix the problem), but nothing works. Can anybody tell me why??

Descent 2 is a DOS game; Windows 2000 as well as Windows XP are based on
NT, which doesn't have a DOS system underneath (Und Das Ist Auch Gut
So(tm)). Try D2x (available at http://icculus.org/d2x/), it should work
just fine with it. Does for me, at leastt.
D2X has a few other nice enhancements, like support for 3D acceleration,
framerate limiting (so you don't get the "ship bobs like crazy"
problem), etc etc etc.

| If you make a shortcut to the setup program, and set it to compatibility
mode, with the emulation being Win9X, it'll go.

Descent 2 has an official Windows port. Technically, you can just launch
Descent 2 without any significant problem, although setting Win95
compatability mode does fix some quirks that appear with resolution
selection.
