Author newbie 'stick question

I've a Logitech Wingman Extreme difital 3D joystick. I use DOS only
(no Windoze). I've two problems with this joystick: 1. The 'action' seems
heavy and stiff. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you
resolve it? The biggie is 2. When runing DOS Descent 2 (or any other game
requiring a joystick), there seems no way to configure all the switches and
buttons and throttle. It does come with an install CD that s'posedly allows
for setup and config of alla that stuff, but it requires Windows<something>
(which I do not have and never intend to). Any help? This joystick seems to
be really well made and attractive, and I like it, except for those
problems.

Bradley Bell has just posted on descent-source that he's fixed alot of
joystick bugs in D2X. Try the newest build.

This one is kinda petty I know, but as best I can describe it, when
I grasp the joystick handle and move it (to make the image on the screen
react acordingly), the resistance to that movement is more than it is if I
use my old Thrustmaster joystick, or my MS joystick. It's as if the springs
that return the stick to center position are a tad too strong. As I say,
this is a petty concern to many, but it is really distracting to me when I
use it.

Hmm. Ok. Is there a gameport card available that will allow the
'customisation' of more buttons? It seems smiple -- 'assign A to one button,
Z to another.' (A moves forward, Z moves backward.) Not being able to do
this doesn't strike me as being caused by the o/s, but rather by the
joystick driver program.

This joystick LOOKS like a joystick. It (claims to) have the
functionality one needs to play Descent (or other games that require a
joystick).
