Nvidia driver for FSX demo.

| I have a G4 4600 TI and am running driver 91.33. I get constant
blinking and jerking and when quitting the program it hangs my computer
and I have to reboot. Does this sound like a Video driver problem?
Could it be other problems as well. I am using the default settings for
the demo which are really pretty low performance settings, I have a P4
2.8 with 1gig of ram.
Thanks for your reply

Hello, drtee
The latest fully qualified, released video driver version I see on
nvidia's site is 91.31. Are you sure you're not experimenting with a
Beta driver? The behavior you describe is typically related to a video
driver problem.

The 91.33 driver just eliminates the "SLI not detected" bubble that pops up
in the system tray. Known bug that was squashed with a quick patch which is
91.33. Yes it is beta, but shouldn't affect frame rate.

Good find. I don't get the bubble, but I do hear the pop sound of the
"hardware found" variety with 91.33, that I wondered about. Since that's
the case, then my next best hunch would be for the good drtee to roll
back to an earlier driver instead, one that was more likely optimized
for the GeForce4 series of cards some time ago. Doc, on the download
drivers page, once you've selected a specific driver, you'll find a link
in the left hand column to archived drivers. Might want to give them a
shot. Of course, you could always get a newer card, like a 6600 GT, but
either way's an option.

Yeah 6600 GT is a good bet. The only thing I don't get is why the hell did
they only make those 128MB ??? Standard 6600's have 256MB, but they are
crippled in all other respects. At least give the customer the choice to
buy a 128MB or 256MB GT. While I think 512MB is a tad bit overkill right now
for graphics in games, 256MB is essential.

Hummmm??? Maybe you haven't looked hard enough since 6600 GT's with
256 MB exists since last summer, I have one from Gainward myself...

6600 series is passe. For example, 7600GS/256Meg/AGP is available for
~ $130.
I bought a eVGA 6600GT/256Meg/AGP for my son as a present last
Christmas for ~ $110. If I was buying again for the same machine, it
would probably now be a 7600GT or 7600GS.
Search on Newegg under Computer Hardware --> Video Cards using the
following parameters: nVidia, AGP, 256Meg memory. Ignore Quadro and
everything numerically below 6600GT. Avoid the power-hungry 6800
series.
Lots of choice.

Have to agree with John here! Today a 7600GT/256MB is probably
a better choice if price difference is slim.

Not for AGP. Only manufacturer I know of that did this was a second rate
company called "Palit Microsystems". Other than that, can't find one
anywhere.

| Hey guys...
Sounds like these video issues may be similar to my problem. I try to open
the fsx.exe application and simply get a very quick splash screen flash in
background and nothing launches. Using a GeForce 6600 GT with tons of
horsepower supporting same.
Using the latest NVidia drivers released September 01, 2006 and will try to
downgrade maybe.
Any other ideas most appreciated.
