Author Patches for older games: F/A 18, Super EF2000

Hi all,

I bought these two games a long while ago and wanted to see if I can get them
airborne again on my notebook computer: a Windows XP Pro, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000.

1) F/A-18 from Jane's: I used Google and found that there's supposed to be a
patch that allows the game to run on Windows XP. At the moment, I can start it
in compatibility mode, but there are a couple of snags like weird texture, not
being able to select some options etc. Would appreciate any input - if you know
where to get the patch, or what do to to further improve the gameplay, please
tell me.

2) Super EF2000 - probably not worth asking, but were there any patches for the
game that made it use D3D or improved it on Windows XP? I can run it but there's
no support for 3D hardware.

Thanks,
Ralph

Try the SIM HQ message board here:

The weird textures could be addressed in the "FAQ for graphics issues":

Correct. Super EF2000 will not support 3D hardware. The DOS-based
EF2000 v2.0 did have a patch to enable support for either 3dfx or
Rendition-based graphics cards, IIRC, but the Windows version was never
patched for d3d or opengl.

Better yet, by turning off 1)sparkling water and 2)low level noise
mapping, but I'm not a fanbois who believes that simhq owns and
therefore can only disseminate that information.

More specifically, follow this link to the patch you need for 3d support
for EF-2000:> http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dp.cgi?lang=...ps&sys=pc&cap=e

It still doesn't look too shabby, IMO. Here's a recent thread I started with
plenty of pics...
