Virtual Cockpit location in FS2004

| Hey all,
I'm installing some new planes into FS2004, and some of them seem to be
missing virtual cockpits, though they are based on the existing planes in
the game. (i.e Northwest Airlines 747-400). My question is where are the
virtual cockpits stored for the existing aircraft? How would I best map
them to planes that are missing the VC's?
thanks,
David

1. Just because you download another 747-400, it doesn't mean it uses
the same 3D model or virtual cockpit as the one that comes with the
simulator. The exceptions are "repaints" that allow you to add a new
paint schemes to the "Variation" drop down in the simulator's "Select
Aircraft" dialog.
2. Much of what you see in the virtual cockpit is part of the aircraft's
3D model. A repaint can do things like change upholstery and interior
panel colors. A little editing with a text editor can change or add
instruments on the virtual cockpit's instrument panel(s). But adding a
virtual cockpit, adding objects like new panels or seats to an existing
virtual cockpit or moving the 3D position of a virtual cockpit surface
around require access to source files either from the aircraft's
designers or through a complicated decompilation process.

It's part of the model itself. Some have it, others don't.

You can't. If you can't imagine your life without 3d cockpits, then only
install aircraft that contain one.
