AVSIM List Server Emails Blocked

Sorry to spam the newsgroups, but we thought this needed to get out to as
large an audience as possible. Please spread the word so that others are
aware of the situation. We posted this on the front page today:
"Many thousands of you are subscribers to the daily AVSIM Library Mail List
emailings that inform you of new uploads to the AVSIM Library over the
previous 24 hours. A couple of weeks ago, we started getting complaints from
some users of this list that their email updates were not being sent. Well,
in fact, they are being sent at approximately 4:30 a.m. EDT every morning.
If you are an MSN, Hotmail, or some of similar email services, you will find
that your library update is not getting to you. Yes, we are sending the list
every morning, as we have been doing for a couple of years now. The problem
is that MSN, Hotmail and others have deemed those email to be spam, and they
are blocking receipt of YOUR requested list server updates. We have
contacted MSN/Hotmail and have attempted to convince them that YOUR
requested list server email is legitimate. Seemingly, that explanation has
not worked as MSN/Hotmail users and others are still not receiving their
daily update. All we can suggest is that if you wish to get your daily
update back, that you raise the issue with your service provider and
re-enforce the point that you have requested that email, and that they are
blocking legitimate communications from AVSIM. "

I have trouble with Earthlink all the time
There is not a week that goes by that we are
not hounded by Earthlink customers wondering
why they have not heard from us.
The others appear to be getting as bad. I
just hope that someone can nip this in the
bud before it is too late.

MSN and Hotmail (same thing) began blocking entire ISPs and regions a
few months ago. Nothing gets through from these senders now. MSN and
Hotmail don't care.
If you want to receive all the legitimate e-mail being sent to you
these days, you have to choose an ISP that will let it through. The
major ISPs don't let anything through that doesn't come from another
ISP, even though these same large ISPs are themselves major sources of
spam. If you have an account with one of these ISPs, don't be
surprised if you never get a lot of the e-mail that you are expecting.

It won't do any good. These ISPs are too large to listen to
individual users. You have to change ISPs.

On some of the mail services, YAHOO MAIL is one, such mail will be
delivered if the sender address is in your ADDRESS BOOK.

Yahoo still lets e-mails through, most of the time. Hotmail and MSN
are bouncing everything.

My ISP has opted for a commendable service in wich they re-write the subject
line of everything they flag as spam to:
***SPAM***[Subject]
and deliver it as usual, so letting me decide what to do with it.
In two years now - I think there was only two instances when they actually
flagged a legitimate mail - and I don't believe I've yet seen a single mail
that should have been flagged that wasn't.
Great stuff, DBNet.

Earthlink is a complete PITA right now.
Because of their overzealous settings,
most of my customers using Earthlink
don't get their order confirmations or other order updates.
It is quite frustrating.

Flagging suspect e-mail is fine, as it still delivers the e-mail and
lets you decide if you want to read it or not. The problem arises at
incompetent ISPs such as AOL, Hotmail, MSN, RoadRunner, Earthlink,
Mindspring, and many others, who simply blacklist entire sections of
the Internet and silently discard anything coming from those parts of
the Net, without even telling subscribers. Subscribers see less spam
in their mailboxes, but they also miss any number of legitimate
e-mails.
For the purposes of comparison, this practice is a bit like blocking
any telephone call made from a certain area code. Imagine what it
would be like if people in certain area codes in Los Angeles or New
York could no longer call you simply because your telephone company
had decided that telemarketers might be lurking in those areas.
Or imagine what it would be like if the postal service threw away any
letter coming from certain ZIP codes. How long do you think a policy
like that would survive?

I blocked all communication with AVSIM ON PURPOSE. I personally hate
the faux forums there. But as you say Allensworth, you are spamming
the newsgroups, so why not whine somewhere else? If this were AVSIM
and somebody spammed like this, you'd lock the thread and delete the
user wouldn't ya?
Double standard, but AVSIM hipocracy is legendary already.

Tom, when I had my dell up before it crashed, I joined up with vatsim and
tried to download the ASRC from AVSIM and it wouldn't download at all. MOF
nothing from AVSIM would download so I had to go with VRC from their site.
I used a local server at the time. (not MSN or Hotmail or Yahoo)
could not ever figure out why I couldn't download it.
I'm glad you did post it up here.
So I had to put my HP in service, and it only has 16 gig HD
doubt if this PC (win 98) could take the program, cause odf it's size.

Nah, he's probably more like 35 going on 13 with an attitude and a higher
opinion of himself than any of us can accept / understand. He's probably a
malcontent that was booted off AVSIM's forums for being a total XXX, just as
he is being here, and resents the fact that anyone would dare to curtail,
limit, or in fact block his BS. In other words, does not handle authority
very well, if at all. We see them all the time, and they are better gone
than allowed to run rampant over our forum members. Despite his whine, there
are 32,000+ members of the AVSIM forums that overwhelmingly agree with our
moderation standards. See this user poll for details:
http://www.avsim.com/poll/stats.php?sid=10&st=a&vw=a
One or two malcontents out of 32,000+ is a number I can accept.

Tom Allensworth, the red-faced, round mound of sound. Funny how much
time he has to post here when Avsim takes "thousand of hours" and
"hundreds of volunteers". A 'service to the simming community' that
rakes in thousand of dollars from advertising revenue every month on the
backs of freeeware authors too naive to comprehend the true situation.
Tom has a problem with authority - not being able to BE the authority
See, he keeps coming back to the newsgroups trading banter back and
forth to 'win' a discussion thread and once again assert his dominance,
or so he thinks in his mind. If only he can raise his usual corps of
buttkissers to rally around him....
But he can't lock this thread and have the last word here, poor bastard.
It must be frustrating huh fat Tommy boy
Dilema, dilema......
Tom, I'm picturing you now with a face so red it's glowing in the dark.
Why can't he lock this thread like at Avsim, the world is so unfair.

Yes I know Tom Allensworth is annoying to all of us. Hopefully he
will get the message and stay away now. Here's hoping! Thanks for
the support!

Seems there's some confusion as to who is 'winning' this little....whatever
it is.
Let's take a poll!
Everyone chime in with whom you support! (Tom, or Stan!)
The loser gets to piss off and grow up!
I'll go first!
I vote for Tom!

us in the sim community ?? Anything ?? Whats that you say ?

HI Tom,
Yes, I've made my reservations at the Hyatt, but haven't yet registered.
Will do so this week.

Hope you sent it to my name at my company dot com. :-)
