Anyone remembered this old DOS game(a simulation of the F14 fighter)?

Why was it so hard to pitch or roll the F14 in that simulator? Was that
a real thing?

I picked it up in late 1998, when I had a Win95 machine. It was part
of Microprose's "Conquest of the Skies" (not sure of the exact name)
bundle of "Gunship 2000", "Falcon 3.0 Gold" & "1942: Pacific Air War".
I wasn't out to get it, but there was a stack of them for a buck.

I would assume so - the F-14 is supposed to be underpowered and, being
Navy, very heavy. An ideal dogfighter it's not.

Like all sims of that generation, the flight modelling left a little to
be desired. But heck, we had 256 colours to gaze at, what did we care
about the technical stuff? ;-)

OMG I was being sardonic.
TC has me so convinced as to his genuine humanity I think I will rush out
and by an L Ron Hubbard book.
BTW I am being sarcastic.

The game did featured an authentic radar at the back seat, I believe. Of
course, I wouldn't have a chance to ride a real F14.

Hey, remember they were flying against fighters that were "smaller,
faster, and more maneuverable". Hey, if the F14's were so big,
slow, and clunky compared to A4's, why'd the Navy spend all that
money?

Anyway, Fleet Defender was a great game in its time.

Hmmm Sorry but from what I've read and seen the F-14 was a very manuverable
dogfighter. Heck they had a special on the military channel about it.

Howz about those movies that depict Japanese fighters which are dressed up
Grummans and such. Don't suppose there are many real WW2 Nippon a/c still
flyable now.

Hmmm, and from what I've seen, it's constrained by its weight and by
engines which are both underpowered and (until recently anyway)
exceptionally unreliable at high angles of attack. That's how I would
define unmaneuverable.

I prefer the fake name - rather than them getting the name of real MiG
that doesn't look anything like the F-5. I love the way they cut from
shot-to-shot in ways tha make the jets look like they're going much
faster than they really are. (If you pay attention, most of the
maneuvers look quite gentle).

I thought they used Texans - like in "Final Countdown".

These Naval Aviators do not assume.

"Top Gun was actually fairly accurate, as far as the flying goes."
