I was wondering what kind of gear everyone is using? Not talking about your
machine itself, but about your Joystick, etc. How many of you guys do
actually use TRACK IR (if not everyone)?
Your curious...

Haven't muscled up the will to get one. Maybe when (if?) the price
comes down. It just seems so depressing that we had crude and bulky VR
headsets nearly 15 years ago, and this is the best we can do now.
Also, isn't it true they won't work with LCD screens? Why is that?

| Ive had my TrackIR for a couple years Dirk and I won't even try flying
without it. At first its a bit awkward but very shortly it becomes quite
natural. I cant recommend this product enough for flight simmers.
I have the TrackIR3 w/vector and its worked flawlessly.
I use it alongside my Cougar which also has worked flawlessly.

Havent been flying a lot lately, but what I use when I do:
Thrustmaster Cougar Hotas - stick modded with the Uber2 NXT gimball mod and
Hall sensors, throttle modded with the Hall sensor mod.
Thrustmaster Elite rudder pedals
Track IR3 Pro with Vector Expansion ( although PF does not support full
6dof) wouldn't fly without it.

I second what most every one else has said about Track IR, it's great
and works flawlessly(?) with my Dell 2001 FP. Now using the Saitek
X-52 which at first blush seems a little better than the 45 although
no rocker for the rudder. This sticks action seems "smoother" somehow
than the 45. They are both dorky looking IMHO, though.

Just what I thought...after seeing TRACK-IR in action for the first time
(didn't know something like that even exists) a few weeks ago. The guy that
showed me how they play above mentioned flight-sim said something like:"I
always fly with my cap on my head." Which made me think:"Okay...every gamer
has his umh *crazyness*...this guy's flaw is just bigger than everyone
else's!" But then seeing WHY he did so (and him explaining it to me)...
simply left me standing there speechless. Buying IL2/AEP/PF was the first
step after watching him, getting it to work (patching it for the first time
is a PITA) the second step. A very painfull (3 weeks long) experience in
playing it online the third...which led to the OP above. You guys answers
at least show me wtf I get owned SO BAD in online flights. I consider
myself not a noob in flight-sims, as I played like every flight-sim since I
first had a C-64. F-16 Falcon, MIG-29, Janes, EF-2000, everything, but at
PF online I simply SUCK! Guess I will have to save up some money and go and
get some fricken TRACK-IR...since giving up is NOT AN OPTION!
Thanks for your replies!

Dirk....
TrackIR does NOT make you a better pilot....
A lot of blokes in my squad use TrackIR but all agree that
while it improves the immersion in the game, they are not
better pilots because of it.
I just use the mouse to look around and find it fine, even
online. I've thought about getting TrackIR but haven't yet
because I think I'll be a worse pilot while I get used to it.

Of course it doesn't. But I lack the ability to quick check my 6 when
chaing someone else (f.e.), which could be easy with Track-IR. Using the
mouse takes just too long, Padlocking doesn't let you. So I consider Track-
IR as an option to IMPROVE. Not the piloting skills, but just the gameplay
overall. It makes things just easier.

I agree with your sentiments, I have TrackIR-3, and Saitek X-52, and I love
it, although force feedback would be nice. Anyway, the main reason you are
having trouble online is that everyone else has been playing the game for
years, and know the planes, and the flight model, inside out. You just have
to work your way up the learning curve. Try the co-ops rather than
dogfighting, if you haven't already, wingmen are very helpful, and practice
off-line until you can own the ai on ace level, and you can develop your
aiming. Also check your gun centering, closer is better, mine is usually
set for 200 to 250, depending on the plane and the expected mission.

I also use TrakIR 4 Pro, and a Saitek X 45,
and wouldnt fly without TrakIR. It is so instinctive
and easy to use, frees up having to worry about view
control, it is a tremendous advantage !
Put it this way, if you dont have TrakIR, you are a
victim in the HL servers that run at full realism !
Oh, and if you go to NaturalPoints website from HL
there is a $15 discount on TrakIR 4 Pro

Yeah, I am definately going to buy one. I've seen Track-IR in action and it
is amazing. But I spent lots of money finding the right Joystick for this
game. Saitek Cyborg evo does it for me. I am most pleased with it...except
the gas-pedal is at a stupid position on the stick. So I guess Track-IR has
to wait a little more for now.
I/JG234-Krid out.

It works so good I've removed all my view controls from my joystick *x-

better than most people say; not given as much praise as it deserves... in
