Falcon 4.0 Traning
|

| Hi,
I have jsut recieved Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, i am an avid flight
simmer, but the traning in this game is sub-par to non-existing.
Is there a way to play the traning missions with a narator like reader
as in FS2004 and lockon. Just so it shows you the keys. i know how to
fly and do things like navigation, flying, and such. i just need to
figure out how to use the weapon systems. I have found some articles
online to help me out with what i need, i am going to read them
shortly.
So is there a way to make F4:AF show to accualy how to play the game in
traning, or is the 700+ page traning manule the only way to do so.

| I think there's may be a market for a better training package for
F4 AF.
I went through the original training missions for f4 1.8, the landing
in rain mission sticks out in particular. It was superb, if a little
broken.
Anyway I think you can get online training from some of the online
squadrons, of course this has to be scheduled for both parties so
it may not be as convienient as following you own pace.

I've hardly ever used any in-built training missions - for any flight
sim. I just stick everything on maximum realism and hope for the best!
It can only get easier!
With one exception - sims like IL-2 have a "quick" mission editor that
can get you up and running in a particular aircraft/loadout
configuration very quickly. Once you get familiar with Falcon (for
instance) you may find you'll be able to knock up a quick mission
fairly easily. That said, I've played Falcon since Falcon CGA and
still find the GUI for mission editing to be a royal pain!
Personally, I like a good manual. There's no short cut for hi-tech
aircraft sims - with all the electronics & weapons delivery modes
available. Just think how many hours a *real* F4 pilot would have to
put in before he even gets to kick the tyres!
Adamski.

| Its not that fact that i cant "fly" its that i need to know the keys
and how they work, i have found some info online. So flying "autopilot"
will not help because i can already do it, i jsut need to know what the
keys do and how they work. I have figured out most of them though.

| Didn't AF come with a manual and key-card?
If not, you can probably find them both in your AF install folder,
probably in a folder called documents, or manuals. They are probably
pdf's
and can be printed out.

| Lockheed, unfortunately you'll have to read a lot. Understanding the
weapon/radar system is critical. I suggest you do the following:
You use FS2004? do long flights and while in cruise read the Falcon
manual. Go to Office max and have it printed.
You'll have fun flying FS2004, and during cruise you get to read the
Falcon manual... try it. Falcon 4 needs solid ground school before
trying the training missions.

What button makes things go *BOOM*?
;-)
Leadfoot - I don't see any "flames" in this thread - are you have a
sense of humo(u)r failure?

| That isn't even CLOSE to being flamed... Hockey loves F4, you have to
relax a bit.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I get funny that way from time to time. I blame my
good friend Sam... Sam Adams.
To be honest, I do love Falcon. I have a poorly made home cockpit with
projector and the whole shebang, I like it so much.
How I learned (and many others), is I printed out the training missions as I
found it is the best way to manage learning the weapons systems, and
probably tried each weapon training mission a dozen times before I was
satisfied I could do it almost with my eyes closed. This is essential. Learn
how to manage the systems well. Then concentrate on a few weapon types that
you feel most comfortable with. I recommend some air-to-air as the air radar
and missile systems are a little easier to manage than the air-to-ground
stuff.
Then start a campaign. Take only missions that you trained for. Initial air
missions can be quite exciting, but BARCAP's can get boring real quick as
they front line is pushed back (and usually quickly). Don't be afraid to use
labels, and pause the game. Half the battle is remembering your key commands
too. I spent a lot of time programming my HOTAS, and now can't for the life
of me remember the key command since I have 90% of the keys I use programmed
on my HOTAS. But whatever works for you.
After getting fed up with the whole SP3, SP4, Free Falcon install dance, and
having constant issues with updates, I quit a couple years before Allied
Forces. When Allied Forces came out, I did as I suggested above, and was
back in the campaigns, being effective, after a good 30 or more hours of
training. Half the fun was learning all the stuff to be honest with you. I
now make sure I fly a few campaign missions every couple weeks otherwise you
forget a lot and have to relearn.
This is the definitive flight simulation as attested to by many real Viper
pilots, so expect to spend some time. Once you do, then it becomes a lot of
fun.
Keep in mind too that you should learn how to manage the ground forces a bit
in the campaign if you plan on winning (which I would hope you do). I still
am poor with that aspect.
All the variety and challenge is what keeps me coming back for more. I just
thank Lead Pursuit for re-issuing this fantastic PC flight simulation and
for their continued support. It still has some issues, but is completely
playable and delivers as was promised, even moreso, it would when it was
released seven years ago.

Oh yeah. Best online resource place to start is www.frugalsworld.com and be
sure to visit the forums there at http://forums.frugalsworld.com .
Good group of guys, even some real Viper pilots and many other in real world
aviation congregate there and has more collective knowledge about general
and military aviation than I could ever hope to have or even comprehend. Oh
yeah, they like to play Falcon 4 Allied Forces too!

| I was realy harsh earlier, thank you so much for all that info.
The problem i had was, since i have been playing Lock On for quite a
long time now, i learned all the in's and out's of that, and now that i
have to re-learn how to paly Falcon 4.0 AF, its a challenge, but a
challenge i am eager to conquer and love to do.
I will check that forum out. Again, thank you.
