| A friend of mine gave me this program. He used it a lot, however I
have not installed it at all. What kind of copy protection does it
have? And how do I get around it?
Thanks.

| If your "friend" gave you the original disks, then there shouldn't be
any problem - the game will simply require that you have one of the
original CD's in your CD drive to run the game. Barring that (some
friend!) you should be able to find a work-around on the internet - a
no-cd crack. Caution though - so-called cracks or links to them seem
like great places to embed viral software. I downloaded '04 using
WinMX a few years ago and decided I was probably better off just buying
the thing once it became cheap on E*Bay. (I got lucky: somebody put up
their copy for auction, but misspelled the name - barely anybody saw
the auction which topped out below $6.)

| Thanks. My friend really did give me the game. Besides that, why
would anyone pay for 2 year old software?

Because the hardware that can run it smoothly is finally becoming more
widely and economically available. There are sims that have been
around a lot longer than that that are still worth paying for. These
are simulator programs, not bottles of wine - vintage isn't the issue
you suppose it to be....unless we're talking about anti-viral software.

CD version: protection's on the 4th CD that you should insert prior to
playing the sim.
DVD version (OEM): no protection.
Getaround: after installing patch 9.1, either get the nocd patch (some
stability issues with some addons) or build an iso image of disc 4 (with
Nero for example) and mount it with Daemon Tools.

Actually the best on PC so far, after a couple of tweaks to optimize the
fps and getting some terrific freeware addons from avsim.com,
fsfrance.com and fsnordic.net.
