What type of monitor? If it's an LCD I use just water on a lint free
cloth and then dry it with a lint free cloth. That works well for a
CRT monitor too but a little Windex sprayed onto a lint free cloth and
used on a CRT is ok too. I wouldn't use any cleaning agents on an LCD
screen though.

What exactly is a 'lint free' cloth anyway? Ive never actually come across a
cloth that has 'lint' in it.

Well, most newer LCD screens have a glass cover that can be cleaned just
fine with Windex or similar agent. I use it on mine with no issues. Just be
sure not to saturate the screen however. There is specific "monitor cleaner"
you can buy in a spray or as a disposable moist towelette if you want to
keep it safe.

| It's a CRT monitor and it's very dirty. I had it for a while now. Is it best
with the monitor on so I can see the stains, or turn the monitor off?
Thanks

Most? Last I looked just some had the glass finish and most still use
the plastic type finish. But if it has a glass finish then Windex
should be fine.

Use your tongue then dry it with your hair.

I use an old sweat shirt cut into strips. I use the inside part. Works
real good on both my CRT and LCD. You could also go to a eyeglass place
and buy one of the lens cleaning cloths. Those are lint free.
