| I've seen these for 70 & 92 EUR respectively, is the newer one worth the
difference?
Also, I really don't like twist action joysticks. I know you can lock it,
but that leaves the problem of how to control the rudder - is it
possible/practical to remap the slider on the handle? I used to have the
old saitek yoke and found the left thumb on the rudder was really easy.
Yeah, I know I should get some pedals ;-) but that raises another
question - is it possible to use third party pedals in conjunction with the
stick?

| I just bought an X52 and think it's the dogs doodahs! Have seen some
people comment that the X52 is a bit soft - but I find it just right.
Haven't tried the X45 so can't compare the two - but would definately
say the X52 is as good as it looks.
One feature I like is the ability to hold in the 'clutch' button and
see what the buttons are programmed for in the built in MFD. If you
can't remember what a little used button does, hold in the clutch and
press the button - the X52 MFD displays the command name of the button
as a reminder. Not essential but handy at times.

What exactly don't you like about it?
Curious - as I've just been exploring the SST software in depth and I
find a lot to like. Yes, there are odditites, but overall I like it.

| Sorry - for 'Dogs doodahs' read 'Cats whiskers'. In other words
excellent ;-)
The programming software takes a bit of getting used to but I managed
to find a profile for the original Falcon 4 that pretty well slotted
straight into F4AF.
Haven't had any problems in modifying profiles and the ability to set
bands for the precision slider and rotary controls is excellent.
The only problem I ( and others apparently ) have found is that the
default settings for the main coolie hat are ballistic. When you move
the hat to look around, your view overshoots - way too twitchy. This
is easily cured though by changing the hat settings in the profile from
'POV' to 'Buttons' and mapping the hat to numpad view commands. This
done, can't fault it.

One problem I have is that I have to disable hyperthreading in my bios
otherwise my games lock-up occasionally. Things are rock solid if either
the joystick is unplugged or HP is off.

Hmmm...(thinks to himself about overall system instability issues that
have plagued since the purchase of a P4/HT processor) - disabling in
BIOS, eh?
Gotta go.

It seems to have gotten striped down when they made it compatible with
XP. It also used to auto load profiles but now I have to remember to
load them before the game.
In short It's not as good as the version before XP and I think that
sucks ;) They also have 64bit drivers that don't work because you
can't calibrate the thing under XP64. Yes I need to calibrate it as it
is waaaay off in xp64 so as of now it's totally worthless in XP64
and a pain in XP.

Sometimes - it's not always straightforward. Out of the box the X45
(dunno about 52) wants the throttle doohickey to be the rudder, and in
at least one case it created a non-overridable situation and my CH
pedals wouldn't be acknowledged as the rudder. In IL2 it was a piece
of cake to fix since the mapping in there was fantastic. I don't
think I was able to fix it in LOMAC though, for ex (don't remember
it's been a while.
That doesn't help much but all I can think of.
