| Your first clue that there is a problem is that you have bought brand name.
Man are you dumb.
If you knew anything about computers you would know that the no name, local
computer store can put together a kick XXX sytem with real components (ASUS m/B,
kickin video cards ATI, GeForce)
Did you realize that there are only a couple of computer part manufactors in the
world? Every company uses the same RAM, hard drive etc. they just package it in
a different fancy box with lots of useless software crap they try to convince
you that is is valuable.
I hope you will love your propritary DELL comptuer with on board video, on board
sound, on board networking and on board everything else. All that and they will
charge you full price like it was a real computer. Ever wonder why DELL makes
money and so many people are pissed with DELL?

I just received my new Dell Dimension 9100.
For about $1,200 USD I received:
BTX case
945P chipset
375w power supply
Intel 630 CPU
nVidia 6800 PCI-E x16 video card, 256 MB, 256 bit path
2GB dual channel DDR2 533MHz RAM (PC4200)
80GB WD SATA hard drive (7200RPM)
Wireless Keyboard and mouse
Windows XP Home
Dual optical drives: DVD & CD RW
Sound Blaster 24 bit card
5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System
Floppy disk
512MB USB Memory Key
One year warranty
Not too bad, IMHO.
Love those non-propritary components.
BTW, I built my last two computers.

| Learn???? What a rude person you are and you hide behind a nom-de-plume!
FYI none of the peripheral stuff is on the MB and at least Dell will still
be there albeit slowly when the PC goes tits up as opposed to the local
store who will suffer from customer amnesia come any failures. Furthermore
there are several different manufacturers of RAM and as far HD's well you
are ill informed. Yes I could build one myself but it's way too much bother
and Dell at least are made to high standards.
BTW the call center I rang was in Toronto (allegedly)

Non-proprietary? Open the case sometime and take a look at the PSU
connector to the mb - it is very proprietary.

I can tell ya now, if you have any problems, your 375 watt PS
will be the first place to look. It really isn't enough for your box.
Not at all............ (I wouldn't start at less than a 500 watt PS)

The last few times I've had to deal with Dell for our office PC's (prefer my
home grown systems for playing) I've had a hard time understanding their
call centre staff who sounded like they were in India. Unfortunately a lot
of companies are doing the same as it's cheaper but they don't consider the
language/accent barrier for their customers, or don't care. Each of the
CSR's I've dealt with have sounded like one of those text to speech
programs, like an indian Stephen Hawkings.

|
| Why cant these firms realise that this kind of thing loses them business. I
rang a bank about a mortgage and got put throught to their Indian call
centre - it lost them my business. I now refuse to deal with someone who
can't speak my language clearly. Its really annoying when its important
though like gas or electric connections etc. But there are firms that arent
going down this route, they must be winning big time out of this. Same as
hard sell salesmen - I refuse to get anything from firms that employ those
tactics as well. It amazes me that these so called hot sales directors cant
actaully see that hard sell puts people off!
