F4AF - How to bomb the right target?
|

| Got my copy of F4AF through the post the other day - got to say I love
it! Used to play the original a lot but gave up around iBeta 3 or 4 as
it seemed that every time an update came out it changed the game too
much. F4AF certainly seems to play a lot more like how I remember the
original - obviously with a few enhancements ;-)
Anyway, now that my enthusiasm for Falcon has been re-ignited I have
started playing the first Balkans campaign. At this early stage most
of the missions are interdiction or pre-planned CAS - which leads me to
my question...
When you fly a CAS mission and are tasked with destroying say the 65th
Motorised Infantry Brigade, how do you know who to attack when you get
to your target waypoint?
During mission planning I look at the map, find the correct target and
fire up recon. From here I try to pick some landmarks that I can
recognise from the air in order to pinpoint the correct target. I fly
the mission, get to the target area, blow sh*t up around the target
point and return home for tea and medals only to be told that the
mission failed because I attacked the wrong brigade.
If there is only one brigade at the target site it's not a problem even
if they are on the move as a quick search around the area will reveal
them.
If there are several brigades in the area I always seem to pick the
wrong target.
Is this just the fog of war, or does anyone have any good strategies
for identifying the correct target when you are presented with multiple
victims?

If you "check in" with the AWACS at the IP, then ask for targeting info,
they'll give you some vectoring information.
That should give you a general area of where your target will be.
Thanks

| Thanks Gus, I always wondered what "check in" was for.
Just looked it up in the PDF manual for F4AF and what you say makes
sense. Will try it out later and see if I can hit the correct
motorbike and side car ;-)

| Just tried what you suggested and it worked like a charm. Got to
within 15 miles of the target steerpoint and checked in. Then asked
for vector to target and got sent 30 miles in what I thought was the
wrong direction ( nowhere near the target steerpoint ). Followed the
vector, found some bad guys there and donated them a load of
Mavericks. After the mission the briefing stated that we had put the
*correct* target out of action!
Now I can bomb proper targets and not just random victims under
steerpoints ;-)
Thanks m8.

| Took me years to figure that out! Glad I could help.
Thanks

It's realism; the USAF seem to always bomb any Brits in the area.
