The resource hit is not too bad... it really seems to run about as
well on my (less than top-end) machine as the previous version,
despite warnings about possible heavier usage.

The main differences are the new planes, which are obviously nice to
have, and the new unified Flight Model - meaning that the fundamental
handling of the planes has been redone, and the same Flight Model is
now applied to AI planes as to player-controlled planes. Having the AI
fly by the same model as the players is obviously a good thing, I
think. The new flight model as such... well, of course, it's a bit of
a shock to have all the planes you've gotten used to now handle
differently. Overall it tends to feel a bit more "difficult" - planes
sometimes slip seriously out of control with very little warning, so
you need to be extremely careful at low altitude. And for some reason
there now seems to be persistent turbulence almost whenever you fly
lower than about 1000 feet, which seems a bit odd. OTOH, oddly enough,
it actually seems to be a bit easier to land on carriers with the new
Flight Model... or at least, it seems so to me.
