Wanted: Saitek PCDash2 (PC Dash 2) or P8000 USB
|
|
| HockeyTownUSA 2005-05-09, 12:32 am |
| If anyone has a Saitek PCDash2 (or P8000 in Europe) I am interested. I have
one, and love it, but can't find another anywhere. I use mine quite a bit
and am afraid I will wear it out, so would like another either new or in
good shape. I'm ready to spend good money for it too, so let me know.
I love this thing, and there's nothing else out there quite like it. I wish
Saitek still made the damn thing.
Thanks!

Ditto although it wasn't a commercial success for Saitek. In fact, I
don't think that it ever was officially carried by Saitek USA.
Saitek UK sold the last stock that they had a few months ago &
unfortunately UKSupport has informed me that they won't be developing
64-bit drivers for it.

Well, Saitek USA marketed it as the PCDash2. I bought it a few years ago and
used it infrequently, only because I had little time for flight sims. Now
I'm back in the swing, and I don't think I could live without it!!! I just
like the simple setup and go with it. People have suggested www.xkeys.com
but you'd have to change every key for each game. I like the fact that I can
print out a paper template, and throw it in the PCDash2, click the
auto-configure profile, and away I go!
I have found that with flight simming, I should always buy two of each thing
I like because chances are it won't be available again, nor a suitable
replacement, once it wears out. I have a good CH setup, but am saving my
money to buy a second set because I love it. It has lasted me a couple years
so far, but I am afraid that some buttons will begin to fail at some point,
or a spring break, etc. I guess I should consider a repair kit as well, if
they offer it!

| I eBay all the time. Don't let that one experience stop you. That dork
should have put a reserve price or a higher starting price if he didn't get
what he wanted for it. I have had pretty good experiences both selling and
buying there. It's a great place to find things that are hard to find
elsewhere. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a PCDash2 or P8000 on there for
some time. Hence, my request.
If you happen to come upon one, then please let me know.
Thanks!

Not unless I get one first.
it's too bad - I emailed Saitek USA asking them about it and they replied
that it hasn't been made in years, and won't be again in the future.
I got a Saitek Gamer's keyboard that comes with a 9-key extra keypad that
has Alt switches on it. It's not exactly a replacement but it has allowed
me to get ome of the annoying triple-key combinations off my IL2
installation and make them easily available for my left hand. I use them in
one mode for TeamSpeak combos (various rooms/whispers), and in another mode
for setting up my bomb site parameters.
As for jet sims - what someone really needs to do is to come up with a
replica of the F-16's ICP and MFDs that have all the buttons, switches, etc.
available at your fingetips. Maybe a home project? :-)

| I never understood why the PC Dashes never really took off. I've owned a
PCDash 1 (which I wore out) and I now have a PCDash 2. I can't imagine
flight simming w/o it.
Since my PCDash1 died 5yrs or so ago, I've always had some concern in the
back of my mind about what to do if the PCDash 2 should go. I've been
looking at the Hagstrom Electronics (http://www.hagstromelectronics.com/)
keyboard encoder to make a "homebrew" replacement with better switches than
the PCDash. The programming doesn't look too bad.
Anyways, best of luck. I know I won't be putting my PCDash 2 on ebay anytime
soon...

Basically, you plug whatever stick, rudder and pedals you want into it,
program it in EPL to translate any action you like into keystrokes,
revise your controller response curves to your liking, and you are set.
Yeah, it costs a lot, but it does a lot. I'm not even going get into
what it can control...
