Last Saturday I attended a live internet air display by four Russians
flying the Su-27 in LOMAC 1.1 (which has slightly tweaked flight
modelling over 1.02). They had commentators in Russian and English via
Teamspeak, and gave a 12minute display which I can only describe as both
flawless and stunning.
Ok, nobody was in danger of dying, which makes it a lot less stressful
for the pilots. But flying in close formation for such a long time, and
performing a meticuously timed routine was still *very* impressive
indeed. So for a few precious minutes I could almost smell the fresh air
tinged with fuel, and there was a grin a mile wide across my face as I
watched and recalled my experiences watching real Flankers fly (sadly
only two at once on one occasion rather than four).
I really don't care if an F-15 can shoot an Su-27 down from 20miles.
That's all about warfare and electronics, not aircraft. All I know is
the Su-27 is the most stunning aircraft I've ever seen display in real
life; it has something other planes just don't have, and if I could put
it in words I'd be an author not a gobby newgroupie.
Anyway, last Saturday wasn't a real life experience, but it was damned
close! Real people, real time, real audience, real talent on display.
Hopefully my movie will demonstrate just a *little* of that.
It will also demonstrate that I had trouble choosing a tune and picking
my clips. But hey, it's an artist's prerogative to be confused, and I'm
more confused than most. I think it's still a useful demonstration of
the VFTC's flying though.
