OT: Dennis Miller on the middle east.
|
|
| Mitch_A 2005-03-23, 6:13 pm |
| Dennis Miller is a comedian who has a show called Dennis Miller Live Â_on
HBO. He is not Jewish. He recently said the following about the Â_Mideast
situation:
"A brief overview of the situation is always Â_valuable, so as a service
to all Americans who still don't get it, I now Â_offer you the story of
the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all Â_you Really need.
Here we go:
The Palestinians want their own Â_country. There's just one thing about
that: There are no Palestinians. It's a Â_made up word. Israel was called
Palestine for two thousand years. Like Â_"Wiccan," "Palestinian" sounds
ancient but is really a modern invention. Â_Before the Israelis won the
land in the 1967 war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, Â_the West Bank was owned
by Jordan, and there were no Â_"Palestinians."
As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges Â_as big as
basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the "Palestinians," Â_weeping
for their deep bond with their lost "land" and "nation."
So Â_for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word "Palestinian" any
more to Â_describe these delightful folks, who dance for joy at our deaths
until Â_someone points out they're being taped. Instead, let's call them
what Â_they
are: "Other Arabs Who Can't Accomplish Anything In Life And Would Â_Rather
Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle Â_And
Death."
I know that's a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How Â_about this,
then: "Adjacent Jew-Haters." Okay, so the Adjacent Jew-Haters Â_want their
own country. Oops, just one more thing. No, they don't. They Â_could've
had their own country any time in the last thirty years, especially Â_two
years ago at Camp David. But if you have your own country, you have Â_to
have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, Â_and,
worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living. Â_That's
no fun.
No, they want what all the other Jew-Haters in the Â_region want: Israel.
They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course Â_--that's where the
real fun is -- but mostly they want Israel.
Why? Â_For one thing, trying to destroy Israel - or "The Zionist Entity"
as their Â_textbooks call it -- for the last fifty years has allowed the
rulers of Arab Â_countries to divert the attention of their own people
away from the fact that Â_they're the blue-ribbon "most illiterate",
poorest, and tribally backward Â_people on God's Earth, and if you've ever
been around God's Earth, you know Â_that's really saying something.
It makes me roll my eyes every time one Â_of our pundits waxes poetic
about the great history and culture of the Muslim Â_Mid east. Unless I'm
missing something, the Arabs haven't given anything to Â_the world since
Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a hell of a lot for that Â_one.
Chew this around and spit it out: Five hundred million Arabs; Â_five
Million Jews. Think of all the Arab countries as a football field, Â_and
Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it. And now Â_these
same folks swear that if Israel gives them half of that pack of Â_matches,
Everyone will be pals..
Really? Wow, what neat news. Hey, but Â_what about the string of wars to
obliterate the tiny country and the constant Â_din of rabid blood oaths to
drive every Jew into the sea? Oh, that? We were Â_just kidding.
My friend Kevin Rooney made a gorgeous point the other day: Â_Just reverse
the Numbers. Imagine five hundred million Jews and five million Â_Arabs. I
was stunned at the simple brilliance of it. Can anyone picture the Â_Jews
strapping belts of razor blades and dynamite to themselves? Of Â_course
not.
Or marshaling every fiber and force at their disposal for Â_generations to
drive a tiny Arab State into the sea? Nonsense. Or dancing for Â_joy at
the murder of innocents? Impossible. Or spreading and believing Â_horrible
lies about the Arabs baking their bread with the blood of Â_children?
Disgusting.
No, as you know, left to themselves in a Â_world of peace, the worst Jews
would ever do to people is debate them to Â_death.
Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that Â_with
vital operations in Iraq and others, it's in our interest, as Â_Americans,
to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as possible, and, Â_after all,
that can't be much harder than stabilizing a roomful of super Â_models
who've just had their drugs taken away.
However, in any Â_big-picture strategy, there's always a danger of losing
moral weight. We've Â_already lost some. After September 11th our
president told us and the world Â_he was going to root out all terrorists
and the countries that supported Â_them. Beautiful. Then the Israelis,
after months and months of having the Â_equivalent of an Oklahoma City
every week (and then every day) start to do Â_the same thing we did, and
we tell them to show restraint.
If America Â_were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would
all very Â_shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done
with it and kill Â_everything south of the Mediterranean and east of Â_the
Jordan.

That's a very short and in-complete version of events. What DM failes to
mention is that for hundreds of years prior to this the Jews had
abandonded their homeland. It was only after their survival of the
second world war they decided they really needed a place to call home,
where they were in charge and had borders they could defend against a
future Hitler.
If it wasn't for American support there is no way the Jews would have
'won' that land from both Egypt and Jordan. While I understand their
desire for a homeland this does not give them the right to walk into any
peice of land and claim if for their own.
As for '"Palestinian" sounds ancient but is really a modern invention',
what a load of crap - have you ever even seen a bible? While it's
possible you haven't let me assure you that Palestine is mentioned
extensively and the people who lived there were, funnily enough, called
Palestinian.
I'd just like to add that I am neither for nor against either side in
that conflict, I don't have a solution to the problem and I just wish
they'd stop killing each other.

What right does one group of people need to walk in and talk land? The one
with the biggest stick?
From the history books that I've read most of the land on this earth has
been invaded, conquered, pillaged and battled over so many times that I
can't tell who it belows to anymore. Except the ones that currently set on
it and can keep it.
If you go back a few hundred years ago, who owned the lands east and west of
the Mississippi river? It sure wasn't the people on it now.

Some of the sites that I've found on this subject seem to contradict each
other as to when/where Palestine came to be.
http://www.ais-gwd.com/~cdevans/Palestinian.htm
"....The Hebrew word translated "Palestine" in Joel is translated Philisia,
Philestina, and/or the Philistines in seven other KJV-OT verses. The true
translation Joel 3:4 from the Masoretic text uses the word "Philistia." As I
said, "Palestine" was superimposed onto the Hebrew text by Gentile
anti-Jewish translators.
....The use of the term Philistia seems to have come into disrepute after
the era of the Maccabean revolt. I should have stayed in disrepute.
At the time of Christ's birth, Philistia had completely disappeared from the
maps. The area was known as Judea in the south, and Galilee in the north,
both were Roman provinces. A case may be made for Jesus being Judean,
Galilean, or even Roman, but not Palestinian.
The name did not make it onto a Roman map again until the end of the Shimon
bar Kochba revolt (135AD), over one hundred years after Jesus' crucifixion.
It was at that time that the Romans were so angry with the Jews that they
renamed the provinces in honor of the Jews archenemy."

"Abandoned"?? Sort of like Egypt made slaves of Jews and used them to
build pyramids?

Nevermind Hitler, how about surrounded by a hoard of fanatical Arabs
intent on killing every Jew? Borders that surrounded them from all
sides against well armed, well financed, and 10 to 1 enemies to Jews
that knew no defeat regardless of how many times they lost the wars
they created.

Sort of like Europeans doing that to native indians? America did and
does support Israel. I wonder if American Jews had some influence to do
it? The "any piece of land" was theirs to begin with and they did not
"claim it". The United Nations had something to do with it creating the
state of Israel. Would you, yes you, do something to take it away from
them again? You are free to try but do not be surprised if they oppose
the idea.

I am sure that some people have seen a bible. Speaking of funny, be
advised that a Jew is from a Hebrew religion and the name of the place
is now called Israel with Israeli Jews living there now- along with
Arabs who are now called- WAIT FOR IT. Arab Israelis. Palestine as of
now no longer exists but Israel has agreed to give them land for a new
state of Palestine.

No one wishes that more than Israelis. If you are to express your
opinions at least get your facts straight and stop distorting the truth
about it.

You might care to look at something like the following:
http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_ww1_balfour.php
You are probably aware of the Balfour Declaration of 1917 but some of
the links there may be of interest. The Words : "Balfour Declaration" in
Google produce over 70,000 hits.
