Bob Church:- Re-CH Pro Pedals to USB
|

| Question to Bob Church the "Joystick Guru" or anyone else with the answer.
I am upgrading my system and will be going to a new mainboard WITHOUT game
port
Just don't have em anymore!
I am presently using a TM Cougar with my CH Pro Pedals plugged into the game
port and using the separate CH Rudder drivers.
I own one of the little Radio Shack gameport to USB adaptors.
Tried to plug the CH Pro's into it and it seems to work ok, but I can't
figure out how in the world to calibrate it.
CH driver has a "Click" button on the cal utility that allows for
calibrating without a joystick button, but when I plug the USB adaptor in it
wants a stick button input to save each calibration setting.
Upgrade to CH USB pedals just not in the budget right now.
Any way to get around this and still use my old rudders?
(I know I can plug the rudders into the Cougar but that is just not
practical because of my "Flight Chair" setup. Too long cables required)
Thanks in advance

| I tried the Radio Shack USB converter, it didn't work for me. I have my CH
Pro Pedals plugged into CH F-16 Fighterstick(gameport) in order to use them
with my Saitek X45(USB). Had to switch to this setup when I upgraded to Win
XP.

Nope. I think MS doesn't allow the "Designed for Windows" logo on a
motherboard that includes one anymore. Some of the boards actually do
still have the circuitry, though. Check the manufacturer. Maybe all
you need is some kind of a slot cover with a DB15 that plugs into a
header on the motherboard.
You might pick up a cheap sound card, too. Find one that lets you shut
down the sound and not the gameport, and plug them into that. You can
get SBLive! cards on eBay for $10 or so, cheaper than the ACM was.

There really is no good way. Assuming you're running XP, about the
only way around it would be to put a button on the pedals that acted
like Button 1. The converters must look enough like a gameport that
they'd see the button okay. On the off-chance you're still using a
Win98 variant, you can get JoyClick from the JoyRegs utilities on my
site, but it won't run under XP.

I know. They only look to the gameport for input, though. They'll
never see the USB stuff.

Unless you can dig up a game port or are still using one of the Win98
variants, the switch is about all you can do. If you were willing to
lose the toe brakes and had an old analog stick or gamepad laying
around you could plug that into the pedals and just set it up as a
2-Axis w/pedals. The RCS users do that, but then they don't have the
toebrake capability to worry about.
Anyway, there really aren't too many good solutions. Maybe ask over at
Frugals, seems to me there were some folks there modifying USB pedals
to look like gameport pedals to work with the Cougar. Maybe you could
find somebody willing to trade?
Best regards,
- Bob

| Thanks for your reply.
I even tried to plug the rudders into the Cougar.
Ran calibration and it looked good, but when I look at the Windows Game
controller, no inputs from the rudders show up
Guess I'm going to have to dip into the kid's education fund for USB pedals
